Respironics bipap 760TS or HS - power consumption?

Post by Harborseal » Tue Mar 24, 2015 7:18 pm

I was able to find that the 760 uses 21V DC and 6.67 amps without a humidifier. Can anyone give me the same info for the regular humidifier and the humidifier with tube heat? It doesn't matter to me if you give me the numbers for the humidifier alone or the total consumption - whatever is easier for you. I have one coming and I'm going to build a battery pack (very experienced :- )

Thanks!

The PR 760 manual states 12VDC @ 6.67 amps as you mentioned.
The System One Heated Humidifier manual states 12VDC @ 5.00 amps.

Since operationally, the humidifier won't be drawing full current all the time, the net battery operated requirements may not be easy to estimate from these two values.

If you have a power meter it might be better to hook up and take a series of measures to see directly.

Thanks! Just what I needed. I assume that's without the heated tubing?

I'm going to assume it's on all the time. Extra power means extra weight but it's preferable to not enough power. Truth is a 5 amp heater may start out drawing more. I'm going for 15 amps minimum, possibly 20. It's going to be big

As far as I know none of the commercial batteries can be run in parallel. I could get an automotive 2fer and try that...

I seem to remember from some long time ago that boat owners could have a two battery setup in parallel that could charge them separately. You will need to switch from a normal car battery to what is called a deep cycle battery which will not be harmed by a significant draw down each night and a recharge in the morning.

If you can tolerate a couple of days not using your CPAP (not recommended) while camping, then not using the humidifier while camping will lessen the power demand and still control the snoring issue.

Edit

Just looked and here is an interesting link on the charging issues:
