Loving my new mask; silly DME!

Post by hopeforsleep » Sun Mar 15, 2015 6:33 pm

I just started using the ResMed Nano for Her. Loving it!!
I was using the Wisp mask and kept waking up all night long to burbling sounds, and not getting very good sleep. My DME said 'I don't know what else to tell you, go back to your doctor".
From reading this forum, I found out that the Wisp is supposed to come with several sizes of the nasal portion. My mask had an L imprinted on it, so I thought Aha! It's just too big, I needed the small! I made an appointment with a different DME at the same company, who confirmed my suspicion. She said I could pay $35 for a small size (which shoould have been free!!) or because it had been 6 months, my insurance would pay for a whole new mask for $70. I went with the new mask, and it's working marvelously.
Another example of how tricky it is to work with DMEs, and how important this forum is! Also how limiting my "Brick" machine is. A full data machine would have noted those leaks right away, right??
Going to order the small size replacement for the Wisp to use as a backup, but actually I find the Nano much easier to use and the air vent less bothersome.
I learned a few other things:
1. I tried a nasal pillow mask (the Airfit 10 for Her) but I couldn't tolerate the blast of air up the nose. The DME said that happens to many people when the pressure is 10 or above. My pressure is 10 which I didn't think was so high.
2. The first night on the Nano, I woke up at 3 am burping like crazy!! I turned the pressure down a bit and this went away.

all in all, a message of hope to others to be persistent.
I am excited to sleep tonight!! Thanks to all on this forum.

Glad you are happy with the Nano cushion.
If you ever want to revisit the nasal pillows you can use the Swift FX nasal pillows on the Swift FX Nano headgear...and I can get you one of each size to try if you want them. Just send me a private message and remind me who you are and what you want. Free nasal pillows. Oh, BTW that's an old wives tale about people not liking nasal pillows at higher pressures....I see pressures every night over 20 cm and I sleep quite well with my nasal pillows.
It can take a little bit of getting used to though...so if you ever decide to try them again just let me know and I will send you a little sampling and they will fit on the Nano headgear so you won't have to spend any money.

When I started out, I tried one nasal pillow mask, (Swift LT), and had exactly the same impression.
Three months later, I tried a different nasal pillow mask, (Swift FX) and was SOLD!
As you get used to the pressure, you may find some masks not nearly as unpleasant as expected.
