Pls Help Me Choose Nasal Pillow Mask

Post by PillowMan » Fri Mar 06, 2015 8:11 pm

Howdy!

I'm a seasoned user. I've tried various masks, but nasal pillows seem better. I often sleep on my side. I've been using an old-fashioned ADAM circuit mask and headgear. I like it because I can sleep comfortably on my side, the headgear doesn't shift around much in my sleep, and the mask and pillows don't hurt my nose when I turn over.

There's just one problem, and it's a big one. It involves the little hole in front of the mask that releases exhaled air. Every once in awhile, the hole gets covered up by the bedclothes. When that happens, CO2 builds up in my blood. I get a suffocation dream and wake up in the most terrible state of panic. It takes a long time to calm down. It happened again last night, and I promised myself I would find a new mask that would never cause this problem.

Does anybody else have this experience?

I'm looking for another kind of mask and headgear that does a better job of releasing exhaled air so I will never have another suffocation dream. I hope to find a mask that firmly anchors the headgear to my head, so it won't shift around at night and that won't put sideways pressure on my nose, even when I sleep on my side.

It's really hard to choose masks by looking at pictures on the internet. I buy my own masks (machine, too) don't have a medical supply company.

Suggestions welcome. Any comments on the Nasal Aire II or the OptiLife Nasal Pillow Mask with Headgear from Respironics?

Thanks in advance,

PillowMan

Try P10s but also figure out a way to keep your bed clothes down away from your face if you can...

I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm doubtful about P10s. This is the kind of mask that uses your nose as an anchor to keep the pillows in place. If I move around in bed, the sideways pressure on the mask hurts my nose.

Any other suggestions?

I use the P 10 and I sleep on my side, toss and turn, stuff my face in the pillow etc. The P10 never bothers me.

I second this. I am a side sleeper. With P10, I usually burrow my face in a high density memory foam pillow. My leak rate line is "flat" most nights. Max leak rate on my P10 has been 3L/min in 40 days. Its nice to see min=median=95%=max=0

You are going to have this problem with ANY mask if you cover the exhaust with a blanket.

Another vote for the P10.
I'm a side sleeper and it works great for me.

I have used the P10 and it is good, also used the Swift FX , I think it is a little better.
But recently I got a Pilaro Q, and for me it is better than both of the other ones.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

This mask vents high up on your nose and may be less likely to get covered -

The P10 has side "arms" that stop almost all sideways pressure and make them very stable - but make sure you use the largest possible pillows to minimize movement.
