Recommendation for a new machine

Post by Judy horowitz » Sat Feb 14, 2015 2:46 am

I am using a Resmed S9 that was lent to me by my provider. I am eligible for a new machine. I'd appreciate your suggestions. Judy

some questions would be:
1) insurance or out of pocket?
2) are you looking to go new?
3) are you willing to go with a low hour used machine and get it cheaper? (this is out of pocket, grayghost4 has had some great zero and low hour machines, for a great deal)
4) do you want to stay with a ResMed? in particular the s9 or are you looking to change to Respironics or another brand?
5) do you want to try a new style machine? ResMed just came out with the 10 line...but it takes a different style heated hose and a few other things, if I've been seeing right.

I used Respironics system 1 560 auto machine. Heck, I bought a "spare" so I didn't have to tear down every few days and set back up when I got home. They worked well for me, but I got twitchy, because I kept hearing people sing praises about the S9 line...I went through forum member grayghost4 and bought myself an S9 VPAP auto. Love Love LOVE it. It works even better for me than the Respironics, which is great, but there were other things that drew my attention. So...what are you thinking you want to try?

I'm on Medicare and eligible for a new machine. My ResMed S9 is set on autopap. My doctor seems to think I should get the Respironics. I have no idea what a S9 Vpap auto machine is.

it's an autosetting bi-level machine. like your s9 auto(set?) but with more pressure difference than the EPR can give you.

If I needed a new Auto CPAP machine I would choose the new A10 Autoset for Her, even though I'm not a her.
If I needed to pay out of pocket I would check with Greghost, Second Wind, etc, to find the best deal on the above machine or a Resmed S9. The doctor would have to be very persuasive to switch me to a PRS1 Auto.
