Still need a snugglehose?

Post by Roboski » Sun Feb 15, 2015 11:42 am

Hi folks! Quick question de jour: when I get my new machine in June, whatever it is, I am probably going to get whatever heated hose comes with it. Does a heated hose eliminate the need for a cover like the Snugglehose? I am wondering if it will interfere somehow with the hose's function and set the house on fire or something like that? I also don't know if the heated hoses make the same crinkly sound the standard plastic ones do, in which case I would use a Snugglehose just to mask the sound. I live in southern California so I don't get rain out, is that what you call it?, due to the temperate climate, so perhaps I don't need a heated hose at all (I kinda like new toys, though ), although the idea of breathing in not-cold air sounds nice. Is that a run on sentence or what! Anyway, any and all advice is sincerely appreciated.

There are people using various hose cozies over their heated hoses just because they prefer not to feel the plastic of the hose or hear the crinkling sound (heated hoses make the same sounds as the non heated hoses).
Using a heated hose won't start a fire or cause undue warmth except with the stand alone heated hose like the Hybernite which specifically says not to use a hose cozy on it.
I currently am using a hose cozy on my S9 heated hose...my reason is my cats from hell. They have been on a terror lately and I am protecting my heated hose from playful paws and teeth.

I like a cold bedroom and for that reason the heated hose is a great advantage to me during the winter time. Not just for rain out prevention but for eliminating ice cube nose from inhaling cold air because the regular hose and humidifier couldn't warm the air up enough and my nose got so cold it hurt.

So you probably won't "need" a snugglehose but you could still use one if you wanted to for whatever reason.

I prefer the cover, and had it anyway. I used a cover with the Aussie (SleepZone) hose for years. That hose gets a lot warmer, and I never had any problems. Hoses end up under covers, pillows and clothing at times (no different from a cover). It wouldn't be good for them to present a fire risk.

another reason some people like hose covers...the plastic hose can make a "Ting!" sound as it taps against headboards, etc...I get a double whammy. Fake wrought iron headboard, and cheapo aluminum coat rack I use to route the hose UP to reduce rainout (and it works really well to hang supplies on, within reach of the bed.)

Resmed states their heated hoses should not be used with a cover, unless it is their cover.
Inconsistency may be an indication of confusion or dishonesty--your choice!

the resmed and respironics hoses have a temp sensor in the end, (I don't know about the devilbiss version) and the machine applies enough power to the hose to raise the temp of the air to whatever level it's set for.

if you insulate the hose, what will happen is that it will use *less* power to keep the hose heated...

it won't cause it to overheat
