Heavy Breathing

Post by deesnider » Mon Feb 09, 2015 2:36 pm

Hello, I am hoping I might get some help. I have been a constant cpap user since 2009. I got a new Resmed S9 APAP in 2012. Its been a great machine.

My new issue is my wife is telling me that early in the morning that I start breathing really heavy. Its started waking her up. I don't know if this is a issue to be concerned about. I know my machine has started making more noise then it usually did in the past and has even started whistling at times. My leak rates are constantly under 2lpm, and the other three numbers are under 0.3 constantly. My pressure is set from 11-12 cm/h2o. I wear the Resmed Liberty Mask. It has its own issues but I cant seem to sleep with any other mask out there.

I have a apt with a new Sleep doctor next month, but I would like to see if anyone else has had the same issues that I have and see how they were resolved.

Maybe ask her to videotaping the heavy breathing episode so you can relate the events with airflow data from the CPAP?

Luckily, you have a machine with data, so why not install the SleepyHead software, ask your wife to record the time(s) she sees it happening and then go back and analyze the data at that time?

The experienced people on this forum are terrific at analyzing the SleepHead data and are a fantastic resource! See the posts in the top section of the forum for info on installing SleepyHead and posting your graphs.

It might be interesting to open your machine up to let its automation adjust the pressure for you to see what it does. The SleepyHead data will allow you to interpret the results. I know my pressure varies quite a bit through the night and with different positions. My current settings are 12.5 - 20 and A-Flex 3.

Ive asked my wife next time she hears this to note the time. I will download my files into Sleepyhead and see whats going on. I may also open my machine to 11-15 cm/h2o and see what happens.
