I had some trouble adjusting to this mask initially .. made me sore too. I liked everything else about the mask so I did a little reading on here. As others have suggested, I found using the largest pillows that worked to be good advice. I have a somewhat large head (hat size 7 5/8) and found I had to "adjust" the headgear to be as loose as possible without leaking. Might just be my perception but the pillows on this mask seem a little "harsher" than on my FX. Finally, I used a product called "Ayr" nasal gel on the pillows when the soreness reared it's ugly head.
As an aside .. I'm guessing the headgear and the way it's adjusted is one of those "Love It or Hate It" things. Once I figured out how to adjust it, I'm in the "Love It" camp. I can adjust the fit simply by changing the gap in the two bands. Don't have to keep two or more velcro'ed straps adjusted to the same length. That said, I'm sure there are certain sized/shaped heads that this mask doesn't fit well.

Re: sore nostrils.....
Good point about different shape heads. I had a lot of trouble keeping the V as th lower strap would slide up the back of my head during the night. My head isn't very prominent or knobby on the back. The sliding up of the strap would tip the nose piece down and create a leak. I took an old stretchy headband and sewed it onto the lower strap to interface the strap between my head and give it more traction. Had to be carful when sewing that I didn't stretch the headgear strap but just attached the padding. No more slip sliding away waking my husband.
Love that mask. Can't wait to get back to it.
