Yeah, make sure it's the Autoset and not the Escape Auto.

"autoset" no spaces... and no 'escape' anywhere.

we just don't want you to get screwed on the deal...

look for 'autoset' on the top, or check the bottom of the label for the REF number 36005 (might have a letter after it).

Ok just picked up my s9 autoset with new hose and new nasal pillow. It has 370 hours and bought it for $310 with new mask. We will see how tonight goes! Thanks everyone for the help.

give it a really good sniff (unless you're a smoker) sniff the inlets and outlets, and just generally around the machine... maybe even take your mask and hose and mask up... don't just turn it on and let it blow, way too much air going through it without a mask to slow the flow and let any internal stink come out. I agree. The first one I bought via Craigslist, I didn't check for smell and had to resell it. The last one, I did. Much better. All you need to do is hook up your mask and take a few breaths. If there is a problem with smell, you will know right away.
I'm going to try Craigslist again... learned the hard way the first time. Do you think smells will be detectable if the seller has used Febreeze? Also, if I hook up a hose and mask and find there is a smell, will it be straightforward to eliminate the residual odor from the hose and mask? I don't yet have a set that is retired or ready to be retired.

If you've ever stayed in a hotel room, the CPAP can acquire the smells of the room pretty quickly, but they also go away within a few hours of use. You can use your mask and hose on a piece of equipment, and it won't be permanently affected unless there is active smoking. Once again, Ozium is your friend as described in another thread. Just spray a cloth, set it near the intake, and run it a few minutes, and all odors seem to resolve.

Most of the odor in a machine kept in a smoking environment seems to reside in the silicon seals in the humidifier dry box. Replace those ($4.95 from CPAP.com + shipping) if you get a machine like this, and it might be okay.

I don't think there's anything that could hide cigarette smells thats soaked into the machine.

if you smell febreeze out of the blower, walk away, or negotiate a much lower price, since they're trying to be deceptive.

a few breaths from a stinky flow generator aren't going to stink up a hose and mask, I wouldn't worry about that.
