sore nostrils.....
sore nostrils.....
Newbie In my second week using an air fit 10 nasal pillows I really like this mask a lot but I find my nostril openings are getting sore and its making an uncomfortable situation even more uncomfortable I assume over time my nose will become more accustom to this mask but is there any kind of gel or lube you can use for this ?

Hi Ed,
Use Lansinoh lanolin. It's made for mothers who are breastfeeding, so you can find it in the baby aisle of any grocery store or drugstore. I find that putting on a little bit right before bed and a little bit right when you wake up works wonders.
Also, wearing as large pillows as you can tolerate helps because larger pillows move around less and therefore chafe less. I was fitted with small pillows in the sleep lab, but now use medium.
I got both of these tips from many people on this forum and it has made a huge difference. I was ready to give up on the P10, but now use it all the time.
Good luck!

Remember, the farther the 2 pieces of the strap are from each other, the looser the mask. Eventually the strap stretches a bit.

But there are no adjustments on this strap so what do you do ?Nick Danger wrote:Remember, the farther the 2 pieces of the strap are from each other, the looser the mask. Eventually the strap stretches a bit.

Re: sore nostrils.....
If the straps get too loose, wash the headgear, it springs (pretty much) back to size as it dries.
Re$med has not yet favored us with adjustable headgear on the P10.
Perhaps a third party will--you?

The adjustment with that headgear is to spread the split part of the strap either further away or tighten the gap. As Nick said, the wider the distance between the split pieces at the back of the head (the more it looks like a " Y " ), the looser the gear will be. The more it looks like an " I ", the tighter. NOT a great system, and it is part of why I gave up on that mask and went back to the Swift FX.ejvette wrote:But there are no adjustments on this strap so what do you do ?Nick Danger wrote:Remember, the farther the 2 pieces of the strap are from each other, the looser the mask. Re: sore nostrils.....
TL, at least you can now boil those pillows!
Don't try it with the P10 pillows!
They are designed to melt.

Re: sore nostrils.....
Only had 2 sleeps with this pillow but I will try slipping a piece of soft foam between my head and the band at the rear of my head, ... when that issue arises. Thickness yet to be determined but my hair is thick in that location and can't see it being much of a pain given how low my leak rate is compared to my Swift Fx Nano nasal mask.

Re: sore nostrils.....
The P10 headgear can stretch over time...I can't believe now that my only real complaint about this mask when I first used it was that it was too tight.
It will shrink back in size with a good washing in hot water...somewhat. Eventually it may not shrink enough for a person depending on their head and preferred tension. I retired my first headgear after 10 months of use for this reason. The stretchy headgear can be purchase all by itself if a person wants to go that route. The other hose and pillow resting place thing will last a really long time with common sense care.
I second the Lansinoh suggestion...great product for any nasal pillow mask.

Re: sore nostrils.....
I have alternated between the P10 and the nuance gel pillows. Bothe medium. Since on chemo I have a very sore nose and discovered from this site the Elan mask. It's like a hot air balloon clown nose and doesn't rub on anything. I had to use the small to get a good seal but had no leaks and an excellent AHI. So glad to have this sit for valuable info!
