dry Mouth

Post by kaycamas1@msn.com » Wed Feb 04, 2015 5:53 pm

I have begun to adjust to the pillows, but I wake up an hour or two later with an incredibly dry mouth. It is so dry that I pull off the head gear until later when I go through it again. It seems that my mouth sags open after I go to sleep. I do know, however, that when I am in need of a big gulp of air I always use my mouth even though I generally breath through my nose. There's something going on when I'm asleep, but I'm not awake enough to know what it is and I get almost painful dry mouth.

It sounds as if a chinstrap might be helpful for you.

Hard to tell without knowing your equipment (type of mask, particularly). Please specify that in you user's profile . Chinstrap may be the first thing to try, though it has had a mixed success

I tried the chin strap, but I forced my mouth open in spite of it. I tried the ff mask, but it leaked all the time when I rolled to a new position. I just bought some Biotine for dry mouth. Anyone have experience with it.

Yes, chin straps aren't effective for many people. It's time to make a full face mask (FFM) work. Make sure you have the right size for your face and make sure it is adjusted properly. It's a normal experience to have leaks when starting out. Now go into problem-solving mode to prevent the leaks.

You also may want to try some different FFMs. Here are the most popular:

Enter the type of FFM you are using in your equipment profile and start telling us about the problems you had with it. Members can offer a lot of tips about fitting and adjusting the headgear. They can also give you good advice about alternative FFMs.

BTW, Are you aware that when your mouth opens while using a nasal interface, the pressure is lost and you could still be having many apneas? With a FFM the pressure is not lost when the mouth opens.

Hope to hear some more from you and best of luck!
