Remstar Auto Showing 0.0 AHI

Post by 7sUp » Tue Feb 03, 2015 4:59 pm

I recently purchased a used Remstar Auto with less than 500 hours, seems to be working great except the machine itself shows a 0.0 AHI while Sleepyhead software is showing what had been my typical AHI with my previous CPap. Any ideas how to remedy this?

Which model Remstar Auto did you get?
And what time of the day are you checking the onscreen data? If you are checking really early in the AM then the machine may not have had time to make the change. It doesn't necessarily update the LCD screen right away depending on when you finally end the session in relation to GMT.
Have you checked the display in the evening to see what it says?

Same as the one in my signature. Doesn't matter when I check it's all 0s all the way down the list. The sleepyhead data is right in line with what I was getting in all categories with my other CPap, which was the same model. It's more of an annoyance than anything else since the machine seems to be working great and I'm sleeping and feeling as good as ever.

Sounds like there is a problem within the module on the display then and I don't know how to fix it.
You can try a couple of things to see if it will help.
Go into the clinical set up menu and then back to the info area where you are seeing the AHI stuff and look for "reset therapy data" or similar wording as I forget exactly what it says and try resetting things to 0 (will erase any prior data stored on the machine which won't matter since it appears to be incorrect anyway) and won't change SD card contents at all.
Might also try the unplug from electric source and plug back in but I doubt it will help...but won't hurt.

If the machine is within the 2 year warranty period this would be covered under the warranty.
Manufacture date is on a sticker on the bottom of the blower unit..8 digit number in year/month/date format for manufacture date.

Edit: After thought....
Is the display showing the hours correctly? And have you made sure that the setting in the clinical setup menu is set to "patient" so you are supposed to be able to see the AHI and stuff?

I reset the data, turns out the machine hours were around 1100 rather than the 400 or so I originally thought. I didn't see a "patient" option in the clinical setup menu though.

My brain finally kicked in...the setting says
Show AHI
and it is either in the regular clinical set up menu or where you reset the data and it needs to be set to "On" for the AHI data on the screen to show up.....if it is going to show up.

And as you have found out....therapy hours doesn't always equal hours of total use on the machine.
We can reset therapy hours to zero any number of times but the total run hours can't be change except at the factory level.
Whoever you got the machine from...it wasn't brand new to them unless they also bought it second hand. DMEs will do this though..reset a machine and pawn it off as new when it isn't because most people never know to look at the total machine hours.

There is no option that says patient per say except for the climate control optionYour machine has to be unlocked.

Well it's still showing up all zeros, out of warranty as well, but my stats show up in Sleepyhead so I guess I can deal with that considering I only paid $100 for the machine.

Curious...what exactly are the stats showing in SleepyHead?
If less than 1.0...the machine may be rounding down anyway so it might not be broken.

But even if it is broken...for $100 we can live with it. I don't think I ever really looked at the onscreen data all that much anyway...always used the software.

I'm getting around 0.3 or so a night, it very well could be rounding it down. I'm not even gonna bother looking at the screen any more, as long as it's working and I'm sleeping well then I can live with it.

That very likely explains the 0.0. The machine is rounding down. Should you ever see something closer to 1.0 on your software reports then you might check the on screen data and I wouldn't be surprised if you saw something other than 0.0.
Buggy on screen data is rare with the PR S1 machines....that's something that isn't commonly broken. Not impossible but uncommon for there to be a problem with the on screen reporting.

Leaks, hours and everything else is showing up fine so yeah that is probably the most likely explanation.

If everything else is showing up...for sure that's the explanation.
Actually a nice problem to have..."my AHI is so low my machine doesn't even report it"
Depending on hours of use...you are probably only showing 1 or 2 events of some sort all night long and that's great.
Might even be an awake CA getting flagged that wouldn't count anyway.

Same with my PRS1. It shows 0.0 for AHI, and SH shows something ridiculously low as well. Not every night, but they agree on good/bad nights.

Had an AHI of 1.2 last night that showed on the screen. Good to know it works, now I want my 0.0 back.
