Resmed AirSense 10

Post by Windmill » Tue Jan 20, 2015 3:15 pm

I am looking to get a new machine the AirSense 10 Elite Cpap. I was asking questions today at the DME and they told me that I would have to pay an extra $100. every 5 years to use the Airview service and didn't say it was an option..sounded like it was an added cost with NO choice. I have never had anyone check on my therapy before, they say they can change your pressure and even tell if there is a problem with your machine, and as well compliance. I use my machine every night so not worried about the compliance stuff. This would be my second machine so was hoping to get the newest available, may settle for the S9. Because of the rules here in Ontario for getting a new machine I am doing a "autopap" study at home for one week, which will only tell them my pressure, that instead of an inclinic sleep study. We are only allowed to get a new machine after 5 years and then there are more rules on top of that. I really don't want to have another sleep study so hope this stuff works. I have the Respironics auto they gave me set to go tonight. I noticed that the pressure is set to 5 to start so I tried it...omg...I think I will suffocate! I don't use the ramp on my cpap at 8.

there's a difference in the elite model and the cpap model. be careful which you get, you don't want the cpap model.

tell 'em you don't want the airview, if they want it, they can pay for it.

If you are used to 8cm pressure on your old machine then you probably need to bump that low pressure of 5cm up higher, maybe 7cm or so, many people feel the low settings like 4, or 5 are so low that they get that feeling of over breathing the machine, or as you said a suffocating feeling.

You should be able to get the Airsense machine and tell them you won't use the wireless feature so they don't have to charge you for the AirView subscription. Other than being able to remotely change your settings the primary feature of the AirView is compliance data which you can supply other ways like mailing in your SD card or printing out the compliance data with Sleepyhead software and sending them the print out -- it's a rip off that they are trying to force you into paying for AirView when you can do all that the old fashioned way with the SD card.

Also just reiterating what PR mentioned above......be sure you get at least the "Elite" model in the ResMed as the standard model CPAP doesn't have detailed data reporting capabilities. Same goes for the S9 series if you get one of those be sure also get the Elite or better, any of the S9 models that say "Escape" don't have the detailed data reporting, best to stay away from those low-end models so you can use Sleepyhead or Rescan software and monitor your own data to fine tune your therapy.

Thanks everyone. I will make sure any new machine is an elite. I don't want any of the extra's. I decided to call the DME to tell them the start pressure was suffocating, the young fella helped me change it to 8 over the phone!!

I wouldn't demand an elite. The AirSense10 can be used as Auto or fixed pressure.

The OP is in Canada.......I belive it is difficult to get into an Auto machine the way their insurance is set up, I think the Elite is the best she can do under the circumstances.

You are correct, getting an Auto machine in Ontario Canada is extremely difficult, there are very specific guidelines. I can get an Elite Cpap model of either the S9 or A10. The ADP government insurance will cover $645. of the $860. leaving me with $215. to pay out of pocket as long as I don't get any "extras". I have a new mask that I bought online so they can't ding me for that I would like to get the A10 so will see what they say when I go next week, I don't want to pay for any Airview service.

You left something out of that post. You must mean "AirSense 10 AutoSet." "AirSense 10" could be any one of 4 models, two of which don't do auto.

Windmill, you should definitely try to get at least the Elite model, but the AutoSet would be better.

Sorry if I wasn't clear...I can get both machines in an Elite. AutoSet would be better but not an option.
