Chest pain after cpap use.

Post by cichyb » Sat Jan 17, 2015 11:29 pm

Been using cpap machine for about 4 months. The last 3 weeks Ive been having chest pain all of a sudden. Its when i move a certain way or just sitting down. Its not horrible but its a dull ache. BP is fine. Pulse is good. Im under the care of a cardiologist which my appnt. is on the 27th for a followup from my catheter ablation in sept. is this common? or are my settings off. maybe to much pressure?

It's possible that it's air in your stomach -- there is lots of info about this if you search on "aerophagia". Basically it happens if the pressure gets high enough that it pushes open the path to your stomach rather than just your airway. If you don't actually need the high pressure to keep your airway open, then you can fix the aerophagia by reducing your cpap pressure. If you DO need the high pressure, then are caught between a rock and a hard place -- you will have to experiment and do tradeoffs to minimized gas and AHI.

Normally I'd say wait til the 7th, and normally I'd say the pain's from starting out on Cpap and your chest muscles stretching (newly), but under your circumstances, and because you're not 'new' to Cpap, I'd call the MD asap... please, please don't go by strangers' opinions on the net here! Even if we had similar experiences, it would not necessarily mean you're having the same one or the same problems at all... chest pain is chest pain, you've already got some history and you need to be seen. We're not doctors and I'm not at all sure this is about aerophagia (been here longer than those other guys ).

I agree with Julie. I wouldn't mess with chest pain. Keep us posted. Take care

Here's another vote for not having anyone on the net diagnose chest pain .... heeding anyone's advice is risky business. Don't gamble ... and don't panic, it may be nothing but we don't know.

Wish I had a buck for all the mistaken heart patients that thought their chest pains were trivial G'luck.
