Vocal Cord Dysfunction

Post by jnew71 » Fri Jan 02, 2015 4:11 pm

As some may recall, I've been having issues with breathing during the day since I started CPAP (tightness in my neck and shortness of breath). After all tests were negative at a recent ER visit, I started wondering if Ambien was causing an issue, so I stopped taking it, only to find that my symptoms persist. One thing I failed to mention and it was because I didn't think it was relevant (I've never had symptoms like this until CPAP) is that my ENT discovered a few months ago that one of my vocal cords is paralyzed. After reading about the symptoms that are manifested from VCD (which mirror what I'm feeling), I'm convinced this is related. However, what I can't figure out is why or how CPAP would have an effect in this area. I'm going to run this by my ENT, but was curious if anyone has any feedback in this area. Thanks.

Are you mouth-breathing? Ever wake up with a dry mouth? I see you have a nasal mask in your profile, so that makes me suspicious.

No - I use a chinstrap and 99.9% of the time, I show no to very little leakage.
