Hours needed for sleep study

Post by nogutsnoglory » Wed Dec 31, 2014 7:30 am

I barely slept for home sleep study. How many hours are needed?

If I redo it will the original limited data remain or will it be wiped?

Look at the study first. You may have slept more than you think.

Even if you only slept 30 minutes but you had many obstructive apneas in that time, the test accomplished its goal - you have OSA.

If the test is positive, now comes the most important part - getting a data-capable machine, learning to use the software and optimizing your CPAP therapy at home.

I doubt it and I'd want to know if I have mild apnea so I want as much data as possible.

The problem with the home sleep I took is there is no way to tell how long I slept. With mine- I guess I slept 3 hours. As a result, I was diagnosed at mild, but when I told the dr I only slept like 3 hours- then I was now severe. What bothered me the most was I didn't find out until after, that I could have used a sleep aid. That would have helped me a lot more when trying to get settled in at night.

If you want as much data as possible...you should have a professional all night sleep study. Much more data than a home study.

Sleep aids are ok? Should I take a klonopin or benadryl?

Be sure to check with your doctor about the sleep aids. My prescribed ambien for my study (5mg), but advised that some of the other sleep aids can interfere with breathing and create an inaccurate reading.

How does one get away with a home study?, I had to go into the facility and be hooked up like Frankenstein, spend the night then wait two weeks for the doctor to tell me my results.
For me it took 4 months before I received my machine, what a process

It sucks totally! I don't know why they don't hire consultants who will come in, redesign the management and admin processes and get everything running smoothly and greatly reduce the throughput times. The patients get better served, the employees are happier and the doctors make more money.

The current mess just adds costs to our healthcare.
