need set up help

Post by christie_m » Wed Dec 03, 2014 5:05 pm

For those who saw before that I was trying to find a machine for a friend who couldn't have the titration study..so I was trying to find him an auto machine. Well his job hours were cut and he was more concerned for giving his kids Christmas. So i found a relative who had a machine they would let him use until he can afford a machine. So they gave him a Goodknight with a nasal mask. I need to find a full face mask that will work with unit. And I have no clue how to set up the machine. It has a ramp button..and a humidifier. If anyone can help me to set up the machine for him. He lost his wife and his mother in an accident this fall.

First - any mask (pretty much) will work with any machine or hose attachment, so that's not a problem in itself... and masks can be sold as replacement parts (to be reassembled - easy to do) for most without a prescription.

As far as the machine goes, can you look at it and copy any and all names, words, numbers, etc. visible on the top and bottom of the thing? That'll help us identify which model it is to help with set-up. Make SURE there's no water in the humidifier before turning machine over (or you'll drown it).

Here is a brief set of instructions on setting up a 420 G (straight pressure machine)
However, the basic setup access is the same for the various models.
The only models that were data capable were the "E" (Auto) and I believe the "S" (straight pressure) ones.
I'd suggest starting with a pressure of 10 cm. That's about the "average" that is used and is somewhat therapeutic to get by with.

Brief Guide to the 420G Hidden Menu

Go to hidden menu by simultaneously depressing the hidden button under the letters "Go" in the "GoodKnight" name and the Information Access button for one second.

The first parameter shown is the pressure.
Use ON/OFF (up) and Ramp (down) keys to adjust the value.

Each time you press Information Access, it advances to the next setting. These are:
Pressure Level
Ramp time
Starting ramp pressure
Hour meter value
Compliance meter value
Offset of pressure sensor
One more press of Information Access exits this parameter-setting mode.

I believe you use the On/Off button to increase and the Ramp button to decrease the settings.

Ramp is one of those options that may or may not be needed. If used, I'd suggest a mid-way setting on the pressure and not a very long period of time......maybe 10 - 15 minutes.

If it has the humidifier, I'd suggest a medium to lower setting to start with. For some, too much warm humidity can cause nasal congestion or enhance the feeling of claustrophobia.

http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual

This site above will email you the pdf of the clinical manual. It may have additional information available for how to get to the various settings as well as pictures that might help.
Just request the correct model..the 420g is listed as available.

The unit given to him had a nasal pillow I think it was called that...he hated it. He said he took it off within an hour.

A neighbor gave me a PB 420G unit with humidifier that he can have if the one he is using needs to be returned. It's been well used but still works so it's his if he wants it.

Ok, Pugsy gave me your address so I'll box it up and send it out to you. I'll include that nasal mask too, it's a gel mask so maybe he'll like that one better.
