Encore Pro Question

Post by jeepdoctor » Sat Jul 22, 2006 7:34 am

When a new hard drive was installed on my PC, Windows labeled it F instead of C. Is this going to cause a problem when I load Encore Pro and My Encore? If yes, what will I have to do to fix the issue? Thanks.

I assume the new drive was a slave/storage drive. The operating drive is always the C drive unless you go into the bios and change and have the computer boot to another drive/operating system. As long as your operating system and Encore are still on the C drive, no problem. If you double click my computer, you should see a c drive and F drive. (Drives D and E are probably CD/DVD drives) Your computer assigned the next available letter which was F to the new drive. You can also change the drive lettering if need be in control panel/administrative tools. Hope this helps. Use your new drive for storage.

Unless you have your computer set up for Dual Boot, Windows should be on "C' drive, you want Encore Pro to be on the same drive as Windows, it might work the other way, but it's not wise to tempt fate. It's hard enough to get thing to work doing it right. Jim

You are right. Usually when someone adds another drive, it is for storage though. I didn't mean to load the program on C and use the F drive for storing Encore software, assuming this is already loaded to C. It will work, but as you state, not wise. I have 4 hard drives in my computer, the C drive is the operating system and programs. The others are storage such as movies, txt files and exe file I use. I have on occassion had two operating systems on one computer on seperate drives. For him I read that he just installed a new drive and the computer assigned it F which was the next available. If not a operating system, storage is the only other available choice. I sure hope he understands. Anyway, adding a F drive doesn't affect what is already operating on the C drive.
If it is not loaded already, it will default to the C drive anyway. So, don't change it to the F drive.

F is my main drive. Originally I had a C drive (main) and a D drive (backup). The C drive was acting up so we replaced it with a new 80 gig Maxtor. Upon boot, Windows assigned F to the new drive. Windows would not allow changing the drive designation from F to C.

The only problem I have had up to now with this arrangement involved reinstalling the NIC drivers. I had to change c to f on an address.

Given how my drives are set up, what will I need to do to install Encore Pro and My Encore?

My boot drive is C:, the program drive for Encore Pro is S:, the installation program silently placed the db on C:, everything is working fine. I even changed the target directory structure for Encore Pro to take out the spaces from the directory names (old unix programmer quirk). No troubles at all, everything finds its parts just fine.
