Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
Before even reading this, I had wondered to myself if one single week of tritration could be enough.
So, I have a resmed s9 elite. Does this device record enough data to tell me if my prescribed pressure is enough? If so, how can I view the data to tell? I just used the SleepSeeker software offered by ResMed to pull data from my card and upload it to them, but it doesn't seem to tell me very much. Any help or direction is appreciated.

Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
I change my own a few times. Lay night o changed out to 15, rx is for 13, I had some issues with sour not getting out of my stomach Fay enough but I felt great today. May lower out to 14.5 and see if I still have air swallowing issues

yes, look at your data with sleepyhead, it's all on your sd card.InAsheville wrote:So, I have a resmed s9 elite. Does this device record enough data to tell me if my prescribed pressure is enough? Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
Would changing your own pressure possibly lead to "complience issues" if your insurance is paying for or subsidizing your equipment?

Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
"compilance" is only about hours of usage... if you change your pressure so it works better, you're more likely to use it.Johnnyb01 wrote:Would changing your own pressure possibly lead to "complience issues" if your insurance is paying for or subsidizing your equipment?
some control freak doctors may disapprove, but I've never heard of an insurnace company giving a shit. (not to say it couldn't happen.... but)

Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
as you'll read, there are stories all over the map from "my doctor loves the fact that I watch my data and approves that I changed it to make things better" to "I got bitched out by the doctor" (at which point, you should generally change doctors)Johnnyb01 wrote:cool, as a new user I wasnt sure what they looked forpalerider wrote:"compilance" is only about hours of usage... if you change your pressure so it works better, you're more likely to use it.Johnnyb01 wrote:Would changing your own pressure possibly lead to "complience issues" if your insurance is paying for or subsidizing your equipment?

Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
You might find some jacka** doctor or DME who will classify you as "noncompliant" and screw up your insurance if you tinker, but I think it's pretty rare. I believe Medicare requires a doctor to evaluate you within the first 90(?) days and certify that the CPAP is helping you and that you are compliant or Medicare won't pay.
Most doctors and DME's just see the 4 hours a night usage, if they even check that, ring the cash register, and pronounce you cured unless you complain.
Don't forget that you can definitely screw up your therapy and make it ineffective if you make the wrong changes to your machine. Of course, your sleep specialist doctor can screw it up, too.

Re: CHANGE MY OWN PRESSURE?
OK, controversial practices are difficult to make sweeping changes in, but it seems we are all in agreement that a 6-hour sleep study in a foreign environment has limited usefulness.
So how about going halfway? If a XPAP these days is smart enough to phone home with data, why not go the extra step and allow pressure changes and other things to be done on the fly by remote, equivalent to a webex session over the net? A tech could then monitor you AT HOME, assuming this technology was built in to next-gen XPAP machines. They could also monitor you for any number of nights that they needed to.
Granted, this does not get all the data that all of those sticky pads give them (even on my legs? Really?) but it should give them the ability to titrate pressure, at least, and over a period of time (or periods) that would give them more than a quick snapshot.
Doing a titration study in a foreign environment in a few hours is like painting the Mona Lisa with a push broom.
As long as they don't have one tech monitoring too many folks at once, this should work, be economical, and give better data because the environment would be the same as the one you normally sleep in, and it could be done over many sessions. They could even let you set up a skype cam if it doesn't feel too big brothery.
