Strap marks at morning

Post by dinko » Tue Nov 11, 2014 3:27 pm

I have lot of strap marks when I wake up. They skin is pressed and red in the places i have the mask the the stripes. The strap marks will leave after 2-3 hours (most of times around 3 hours).

If I make the mask not to be so tight, there is air leaking around the mask. So I have to keep it a bit tide to make sure air doenst leak.

I asked my cpap supplier and he advice me to use a zinc-oxide cream. I bought but I dont have any experience. Does it really work?
Should I put at night? At morning when I wake up or both?

BTW: I am going to try as well the mask of ResMed AirFit F10. Looks more comfort compared to my Quattro Air.

Any other suggestions are welcomed!

zinc-oxide cream
That can clog your pores up and is tough to wash off your face. It will also make your mask straps nasty.

Someone should give you the link to Padacheek.

Did you wash your mask thoroughly before using it?
You can make (or buy) strap covers from fleece or other materials.
If they're too tight, it could account for those conditions, too.

You can get strap covers from Karen at Pad-A-Cheek, http://www.padacheek.com. I have some that I use and I no longer have red marks on my cheeks. I started with Quattro Air and switched to AirFit F10 shortly after it came out... I like it much better, but I still have the Air for a backup mask.

I would not be inclined to use any lotion or ointment while wearing my mask as that can contribute to leaks. Zinc Oxide is white, and if you use it during the day, you will have white marks instead of red marks... ever seen the life guards at the pool with white noses to prevent sunburn?

I use a Circadiance Advance, soft but sleep on my side so strap marks. As a stop gap I cut two strips of heavy polar fleece wider than the strap and just slipped them under straps next to skin.. They stay in place so well that's what I do every night. These have no romantic appeal but In my case I have a life time supply and make as needed. Once I folded face tissues when strips forgotten overnight.

I get marks from my Swift FX, but this weekend I dug out the pad a cheek strap covers...a WORLD of difference. No marks! I need to get anothe pair so I have them in my truck, too.

Hey guys, yesterday I slept with AirFit F10 ... a huge difference. This mask is much more comfort and i have no big marks.
I still have marks around the nose (the point that mask is applied) and in that place I cannot use any pads.

So maybe I have to wash my mask more often or something?

@library lady: do you use pad cheeks with the AirFit F10 as well? If so, can you give me the link of the exact pad you purchased?

The AirFit P10 also doesn't leave marks like the Swift FX (without the padacheek strap covers) does. My sleep doctor saw the strap marks on my face and sent me to padacheek, which didn't work for me. Their strap covers allowed the straps to slide around too much on my face, which broke the pillow's seal too much...I also have a pretty full beard, and the silicone straps stayed in place better. But the P10 doesn't have this problem.

For that area around the nose you might look at a mask liner to help prevent the marks on the skin.
You can get an idea if a liner would help by just cutting up an old T shirt and making your own liner.
You can get an idea as to pattern from pad a cheek
http://www.padacheek.com/PACAirFitSeries.html
and she does make a liner for the F10.
She says there is a pad for the nose bridge area
For DIY...just lay the mask out on an old T shirt and cut around the outside a couple of inches..then cut an opening for mouth and nose in the middle. You could also make half a liner just for the area across the nose.

The Resmed headgear just doesn't have sufficient padding for me

The neck strap cushions below from padacheek work awesome for me

If the marks are lines in the skin as opposed to red marks then Preparation H works. It also works on the bags under my eyes. Just rub it on in the morning and your skin tightens nicely and becomes unindented.
