I have just found this forum and am looking forward to gaining a wealth of knowledge from all of you. I am new to sleep apnea and need all the help I can get regarding equipment, habits, just things I need to know. I have read through some of the postings and found some useful infomation to take back to my sleep doctor. I will keep my postings short and to a minimum, don't want to wear out my welcome.
Would like to say hello to the "Court Jester". He seems to keep everyone in good spirits. It takes a kind and caring person to do that on a daily basis.
If I had a hat I would tip it to you Liam!
Hello All

Boy, are you looking in the wrong place.Sleepless into the Night wrote:I have just found this forum and am looking forward to gaining a wealth of knowledge from all of you.
Would you believe, I started replying to this before I even noticed you'd referenced me?Sleepless into the Night wrote:Would like to say hello to the "Court Jester". He seems to keep everyone in good spirits. It takes a kind and caring person to do that on a daily basis.

Seriously, welcome to the club. You'll find a number of people here who have REALLY good information for you. Pay particular attention to rested gal, Wading through the Muck and SWS, although others have good information too.
And keep your chin up. Getting through the first days and weeks of treatment can be tough (heck, I'm only a few weeks in, and I still have to be a wiseass just to keep myself sane). You'll get there. We'll help you pull through.
Liam, who just realized why he never took that job as an inspirational speaker.
Dear sleepless
Dear Sleepless,
Wear out your welcome?!?
Impossible. Look, if Liam hasn't managed to wear out his welcome, what makes you think YOU could?
Yes, he's quite the class clown, isn't he? Always darting in and out of topics, spreading his wiseass, er, I mean welcome cheer wherever he goes!
Welcome! Remember, write whatever you like. You can't possibly wear anything out.
Linda, who thinks Liam is one weird (funny) critter.

Dear Sleepless
I've been on the CPAP machine for almost 2 months and feel great everyday. I have had to adjust my sleep pattern...for so long I "slept" for 10 hours every night....found out I only need 7 hours of sleep! And I'm awake during the day...every day! I have found some good useful information on this forum.
Welcome!
Welcome!
I am with you janc. I just had my cpap titration study....although I was awake for a good part of the time(despite Ambien), I tolerated the mask all night. I can't wait to get the machine and be like a normal person again...10 hours per night of sleep is routine for me as well as a 2 hour nap per day. Ugh....how I dream of a day without a needed nap and 10 hours of sleep the night before! Jen
Dear Sleepless,
Welcome!
My best advice to a newbie from a relative newbie (a little over a month) is DON'T GIVE UP! Keep working with your friends here, and your provider, doctor, DME, or CPAP.COM to get the setup that works for you.
I got almost immediate relief from the daytime sleepies, and am adjusting to the interface, hoses, etc. I am feeling better every day!
Keep on reading this forum -- you will learn a LOT! I second Liam's motion to listen to Wader, Restless Gal & SWS, and there are lots of other informed and intelligent folks here as well.
And then there is Liam! We couldn't do it without your wonderful (if sometimes perverse) humor, Liam! Keep up the good work! And behind that silliness and self deprecation, there is a very sharp mind at work.
Let us know if we can help -- that's what we are here for!
Sleep well,
Jane
