System One heated hose upgrade
Since the weather is getting colder at night I am having problems with rainout. I see that Philips Responics sells an upgrade kit for the regular system one machines so they can be upgraded to use a heated hose.
I was wondering if anyone had done this and what the result was. Also, I'm not sure if my DMR would pay for one, so I will probably need to pay out of pocket.

Series 60 machines can upgrade.
Here is a link to the kit.

Its only $75 and a very useful function to have.

Re: System One heated hose upgrade
Only the 60 series machines can do this. The older 50 series models use a different humidifiers that can't be upgraded. You can't put the 60 series humidifier on the 50 series machines.Portlandguy wrote:Since the weather is getting colder at night I am having problems with rainout. There are some separate heated hose options, such as "Hybernite".

Re: System One heated hose upgrade
I have done the upgrade, pretty simple. The upgrade will only work for the series 60 units. The series 50 electrical connection and firmware does not support heated tubing. The kit comes with a new humidifier top, 80 watt power supply and the heated tubing. You just pop off your original humidifier cover, plug in the connector for new one and snap it in place. You will need to now use the 80 watt power supply, the original 60 watt supply doesn't have the power for the heated tube.

It works well and as others have said the kit installation is easy and takes maybe 10 minutes. Mine replaced an Aussie heated tube that was a few years old.

I have the upgrade. Love it. And you can swap back and forth from heated to non heated hose if you leave the new 80 watt cord attached.

I have the upgrade. Best seventy five bucks I have spent. I thought about getting it from the DME and let the insurance pay, but the way they overcharge the deductible would have most likely been more than what this forums sponsor charges outright. Also, in order to get the insurance to pay I would have had to get the doctor to prescribe it. Too big of a hassle for a seventy five buck item..

Thanks Everybody! I'm not sure if mine is a 50 or 60 series. I'll have to check.
Anybody have luck getting the DME to at least pay for a replacement hose?
Also, what do you do about cleaning the heated hose? I'm guessing you have to be careful not to get the electronics wet.

Thanks! I was wondering about that. I guess it works ok even if I don't plug in the sensor?Tatooed Lady wrote:I have the upgrade. Love it. And you can swap back and forth from heated to non heated hose if you leave the new 80 watt cord attached.

To check on what series your machine is:
Remove the humidifier tank.
Turn your machine over and look on the bottom of the blower unit.
You'll see a model number that looks like REFxxx or DSxxx.
If the xxx is x5x its a Series 50 machine
If the xxx is x6x its a Series 60 machine.

Re: System One heated hose upgrade
I can't imagine not having it. Rainout would have made me quite CPAP treatment quite quickly

Not sure why you would unplug anything other than swapping hoses. When the new cover goes on, there's a small power cable under the lid that clips into the humidifier unit. Out of sight out of the way.Portlandguy wrote:Thanks! I was wondering about that. I guess it works ok even if I don't plug in the sensor?Tatooed Lady wrote:I have the upgrade. Love it. Re: System One heated hose upgrade
I got the upgrade shortly after starting cpap last November and it made a big difference in comfort, warmer and no more wet frozen nose. I had some problems getting the tiny electric connection tight in the back of the chamber, the last little click was hard to do. The first time I tested the indicator light on the blower did not change from blue to yellow. I was glad there was a way to tell.
