trying to learn to read Sleepyhead data. Please help.

Post by DozingOff » Mon Nov 10, 2014 5:36 am

So this is a pretty typical night using my auto setting machine. I feel better when I awake than I have in a long time. Is there any tweaking I could do to make it better? Just not sure on what data is relevant to what as far as adjusting my machine. I am having another sleep study tomorrow night, Just preparing for the worst, (And that being not enough events for the titration part)

it's a pretty good night, you'd likely be slightly better raising the lower pressure.

the first chart has pretty much all that's needed for a good overview, the other two aren't much use except in specialized circumstances.

what do you hope to get out of another sleep study?

I am not sure I would do anything to tweak the settings at this point if I was sleeping great and feeling great.
The only real activity comes in about the middle of the night and seems to happen just once. If I saw a lot of that sort of activity I might consider just a little more minimum pressure (like 0.5 or 1.0) and that would be it.
If not sleeping well or feeling decent...then maybe discuss some options but your report looks great.
Oh, BTW only the top report needs to be posted ...those second and third report images including all those other graphs aren't really needed at this stage of things. All those other graphs are simply showing the normal wide of norms for those items and pretty much don't mean much at this stage of things.

what do you hope to get out of another sleep study?

I just started using cpap a few weeks ago. My wife has servear apnea (AHI of over 100) and she felt better aftger the first few nights. She suggested I try it. So I did and responded to it well. I snore horribly, wake up with bad headaches and just have no energy. Feel tired after a full night sleep. I took an online sleep test and it suggested I talk to my Dr. about apnea. I talked to my GP and she ordered my first study. It wasn't a good night. And nothing like a normal night sleep. (I hardly slept and the place seemed like they didn't know what they were doing.) I have not been prescribed cpap but the sleep Dr. that I am now seeing (My GP ordered the first study and my sleep Dr. the second) wants me to do the one tomorrow. I am hoping to be prescribed cpap so that my insurance will pay for it. (A machine and masks / equipment) because I have good insurance and want to use it. I've been responding to the cpap and will continue to use it regardless of the results of the study, Just wanted it to be prescribed rather than "Self medicating" and why have good insurance if you can't use it?

I must say that I am glad that this community doesn't think less of you if you do self treat. I appreciate all of the knowledge that you guys / gals have provided.

so, *scratching head* I'm confused... you seem to have, and be using a machine, or did you steal it from your wife?

if you have one, you're just trying to get your insurance to buy you another one?

I'm confused also: are you using your wife's machine? If she has severe sleep apnea, what is she using? Or do one of you do shift work so that you sleep at different times? I guess that would work. Does anyone know if sleepyhead could keep the 2 users separate?

no... because the machine wouldn't keep the two users separate, unless you cleared the data in the machine after each use.
