Woohoo, finally got my CPAP!! First night tonight!!

Post by brianthenewb » Thu Nov 06, 2014 12:42 am

So excited I finally got my CPAP machine today! Took months but it's here! They didn't give me a choice in machine but if I remember correctly from the advice some of you gave me and from posts I've read, I got a good one. It's the resmed auto s9 w/ humidifier, climate control, heated hose. Trying out the resmed softedge Quattro air ffm. Hope it works out for me! I know it's going to take some getting use to, and I really hope it will be worth it!

Does it say Autoset or Escape Auto above the power button?

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Haha, thank you Starlette, I'll have to do the welcome wagon later. Just woke up to use restroom but was sound asleep for about 3.5hrs and checked machine. 1 AHI!! Said mask fit was good too. Time to catch some more zzz's! I think I could sleep a week straight with this thing!

Well I started having irregular heartbeats, palpitations, hbp, near blackouts, and a long, long laundry list of problems way back on February 28th of this year. Have been to ER many times, I believe a few times from Atenolol side effects, then finally after seeing my PCP for 5 months about 2-4 times a month, I finally got them to send me to a Cardiologist that ordered a sleep study right away, all my heat tests came back normal, I did the sleep study on a Tuesday and that Friday I woke up with a horrible pain in my leg which turned out to be a DVT (blood clot) caused by inactivity because I wasn't moving much since I was always dead tired, dizzy, couldn't do any exercise without aost fainting & gettimg irregular heartbeats, etc, etc...oh and I have a genetic clotting disorder.

Two more ER visits for the DVT, then after having my sleep study in August, waiting & waiting for docs to read the report, insurance to approve, waiting 1 additional month to see sleep therapist & get CPAP, the whole time thinking I was going to die every single day, hell yeah I'm excited about CPAP. I told the therapist this was like Christmas for me, never been so happy in my life! Still didn't get the best nights sleep, but that's because I had to get up for a bathroom break and I couldn't stop watching all the early morning news I normally miss. I felt very comfortable with the machine though and had no problems with the mask. It says ResMed Softedge™ Quattro™ Air on the back of the head strap and ResMed Quattro™ Air on the FFM.

Brian,

You have every reason to be excited and I am so happy that you're finally on the way to wellness. It sounds like you are going to do quite well with this therapy and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Same here. Anything was better then being a half dead zombie.

Regarding the blot clot - be aware that you will sleep deeper and move less on cpap so make sure that your position is a good one and your mattress is appropriate for your issues. The first week my hips were very painful until I invested in a mattress topper and added two old duvets to my mattress.

I don't think I ever felt like a zombie... but I remember after about my first week on my machine, I fell asleep without it one night and woke up with a headache and then I remembered that I used to wake up every morning with a headache... that's when I knew for sure it was all worth it.

I was very excited when my machine arrived.
Not only to sleep better, and be awake better, but it is also a cool toy that spews a lot of cool data.

Good luck Brian, and its really exciting to feel that finally you're going to get good sleep, after a little perseverance maybe.
It's really worth it.
