slack jawed

Post by doc47 » Sun Oct 26, 2014 11:07 am

I could be the poster boy for the Simpson's character, "the slack jawed yokel". I haven't found a chin strap that works. None of the ones I've tried adjust tight enough. For some reason, I force my jaw open while I sleep. I've tried everything I can think of...any ideas? Considering super gluing my teeth together......thanks

Without knowing what equipment you have, it's kind of hard making suggestions. But, I gather that you must be using a nasal mask since you're trying to use a chin strap.

First of all, can you breathe through your nose before you mask up? If not, do nasal cleansing before bedtime.
If you're using a "high" humidifier setting, try turning it down or even Off. (leaving water in the chamber)

If all else fails, go to a full face mask and even if your mouth falls open, you're "covered" and you won't be losing your therapy air.

Try a cervical pillow (available at any drugstore). It will help prop your jaw up.

Some people also use tape/taping in the area of their mouth so that they can use a nasal pillow or nasal mask. There's lots of threads about it on the forum, just use the "Search" widget at the top left of this page.

Of course, you could try a full face mask or two and see if that suits you, as well.
