Resmed 10 Pressure 5 vs pressure 7
Resmed 10 Pressure 5 vs pressure 7
I have recently started using a CPAP
The Sleep study and the Dr recommended a pressure of 5
The company came out and delivered the Machine. After delivering the Machine and Training me they told me I should have it at 7 because at 5 carbon Dioxide could build up. I tried to comply but 7 was to much pressure. My AHI ended up 9 and above. I turned it down to 5 and my AHI went to 3.9 and I slept better.
Is there any truth about the carbon dioxide?

The manufacturers write these warnings for a reason.
How many nights did you use the setting they put in the machine? One?
Depending on how many hours you slept, the AHI numbers you stated could have been statistically the same.
If YOU feel better at a pressure of 5 cm.......FINE. Leave it there and use it.

yes, lawyers.Wulfman... wrote: The manufacturers write these warnings for a reason.
given that the average mask vents 20 liters per minute at 4cm, it's *highly* unlikely that any harm is going to come to anyone at that pressure, or the machine mfgrs wouldn't allow such a low setting, because, lawyers.

You know.......some of the early machines used in the U.S. and even some of the current European machines have a range of 3 - 18 cm.palerider wrote:yes, lawyers.Wulfman... wrote: The manufacturers write these warnings for a reason.

I can't imagine trying to use a pressure that low. Actually, 10 cm. was about as low as I was comfortable with. On the other hand, I never have tried anything lower than 10 cm.

well, I think you should discuss with your doctor the ignorance of your tech who changed the doctors rx pressures. something that I've heard they're not allowed to do.romeeko wrote:Thank you for your Replies I could not find the last post and never received notification because I did not register.

Understood. Welcome to the forum. I hope the replies somewhat answer your question. I don't think there IS a "right" answer for this question. It's one of those "Your Mileage May Vary" situations. And, it's always been one of those word-of-mouth suggestions with no solid evidence......but depends on the individual.romeeko wrote:Thank you for your Replies I could not find the last post and never received notification because I did not register.

Re: Resmed 10 Pressure 5 vs pressure 7
The mask is safe to use at even 4 cm...if it wasn't there would be big warnings all over it..."don't use below xxx cm pressure" but there are no such warnings. Now some people don't feel comfortable at the lower pressures and they feel rather stifled or almost suffocating but it's a perception thing...we won't/don't/can't suffocate at the lower pressures even though it might feel like it.
If you are really concerned...ask your doctor...your doctor is who should be addressing your concerns and has the final say so.

Re: Resmed 10 Pressure 5 vs pressure 7
Okay...page 7 of the little book that comes with the mask. If you got the box..it's hidden under the tray..pull it out and see if you have the booklet.
bottom of page 7
Therapy pressures 4 - 20
and I use the same mask...and I cheat and go past 20 cm every single night...I am still here.
With any nasal pillow there is a chance that there is a perception of feeling like we are suffocating at the lower pressures due to such a small volume of air in the nasal pillows. My own sister accused me of trying to kill her at 5 cm after only 30 seconds. Sometimes people "feel" it but they aren't...those people we suggest a little more pressure for comfort and air movement or maybe up a size in the nasal pillow.
If you are happy with 5 and your doctor prescribed 5 then there is zero reason to not use 5 as long as you are happy and your therapy is effective and with your AHI..looks like it is.
