compare WISP and Swift FX masks

Post by snorebeard » Sun Oct 12, 2014 12:12 pm

Using the WISP now, and like the fact that it disconnects from the nose, so don't need to take mask off when get up at night. Its my first mask, and only three months into CPAP. I quess Medicare wont give mask till 6 months, or is it 3 months? Im worried WISP is fragile, and already weakening at snaps and clip for nose, and better get another one as a backup, but want to try the Swift to see if better with leakage and comfort.

Thoughts?

I am also using the Wisp and I like it. I have never tried the Sift FX so can't compare.
I have been using mine since July and have not notice any wear or weakness. If a snap does break you can remove it and thread the strap through the mask directly. You could even swap the snap from the staitionary side, the side I never unsnap when I remove the mask.
I also like the Sleepweaver Elan, which is a cloth mask.

Medicare will pay for another mask at 3 months but they won't pay for headgear except every 6 months.
Stupid I think but they didn't ask me what I thought.
Some DMEs will stock the masks without headgear but most choose to just tell you Medicare won't pay for a mask until 6 months because they don't want to stock masks without the headgear and they don't want to give you the mask at 3 months with the headgear included because Medicare won't pay for the headgear...they want to be paid for the headgear by someone. Imagine that. Shelf storage is often limited so some DMEs simply won't stock a mask package without the headgear. The mask manufacturers offer a package without the headgear in most situations but the DME simply won't stock them and prefer to tell you that "your insurance only pays for 1 per 6 months" instead of telling you the truth.

I have tried the Wisp but I had issues with it so I couldn't successfully use it. It's a nice mask for a lot of people...just not for me.

If you wish to try the Swift FX prior without using your insurance allotment...you can buy the replacement parts and build your own mask or buy from cpap.com and I think the Nano still has free return insurance for just in case you hate it. Full mask packages require a RX though from cpap.com ...replacement parts don't and that's why cpap masks are sold in parts on EBay instead of a full package.
If you know what to buy and deals to watch for...EBay is a potential good source for some good deals if you want to go that way. The short hose assembly with it is the most costly part though.
Should you find a good deal on the hose and headgear...

For the Swift FX you need 3 main parts (remember there is a Swift FX Nano cushion and a Swift FX nasal pillow mask) so when you say Swift FX..there's 2 choices. The hose and headgear are interchangeable though.
1...nasal pillow for the nasal pillow FX or the Nano cushion if you are wanting the over the nose cushion
2...short hose assembly
3...silicone headgear and back strap..these are usually packaged together

If you watch the deals on EBay sometimes there are buy it now prices about half of the other sellers. Just have to shop smart.

I tried the Wisp but didn't like it. The Swift is much more comfortable and the Airfit P10 is even more comfortable (to me). I seldom have leaks with either one. My DME said medicare will give you a new mask every six months... pillows every three.

You can do a search here... at the top of the page... for comparison of the Swift FX and the Airfit P10.

He's misinformed. Nasal pillows are allowed 2 per month. He's missing out on potential profit with the 3 month schedule for pillows unless he is sending 6 every 3 months.

That is about what happened. They sent five - which I didn't need - but I kept them thinking I wouldn't need pillows for the next five years. I finally tossed the first Airfit P10 pillow I've been using since Feb. I really didn't even have to...

I use a swift fx and it works pretty well for me, but I have a couple issues. The vent is on the end of the hose where it connects to the mask. If it swivels around to any position other than vertical, I get a breeze on my lips, which I find uncomfortable. Anyone else have this issue? The other issue is that the vent is virtually silent unless the air stream
hits anything, like bedding. Then its really noisy.
