Ear sores swift fx

Post by fms3238 » Wed Oct 08, 2014 3:50 am

Hey everyone,

I'm a fairly new cpap user. Been using the resmed s9 with swift fx nasal pillow. I've developed some sore in the top of my ears. They seem to be getting irritated when the straps get pushed down to the ears. I do move around in my sleep a lot. The sores are now actually becoming painful during the day and are visibly red. Does anyone know of a good way to pad the ears?

Pad a cheek strap liners. She even makes them for the Bella loops.
If your nose is being pushed up, the headgear may be a smidge too tight.
For a quick fix, grab the cotton out of a bottle of aspirin.

Sounds like your ears are too high Mine were with the FX and what I had to do was tighten the top strap over the head to move the frame higher up my head. This resulted in the back strap slipping up over my head during sleep and to prevent this I had to attache another piece of elastic through the existing slots lower down the frame near the chin and took this around the back of my neck to the slot on the other side. I covered this in fabric and used some "velcro" to make it detachable. Bit of a faff and something we should not have to do but all heads are nor equal.

I can't tell which might be rubbing the ears raw..the side strap or the back strap or the junction between the two.
When I was using the Swift FX it never slid down to be where it would actually touch the ear. I did use the Padacheek side strap covers because I like the softer fleece better than those thin covers ResMed supplies with the mask.

Look here and pay special attention to the
Strap Pad + Swift FX Over the Top Strap Pad
it covers both the side strap and the back strap and the junction.

Right above it is the side strap cover only and I think the back strap is on a different page.

Karen at padacheek uses quality fleece and everything is well made. Might seem a bit pricey for the big cover everything product but it will last you an indefinite period of time with simple common sense care.
