ResScan vs Sleepyhead

Post by Reuven Gruber » Mon Oct 06, 2014 8:55 am

I have ResScan software. Is there any reason for me to use sleepyhead?

It's faster and easier to understand. Use both and compare them.

Not really if you don't want to.
SleepyHead lets you do some fun things that ResScan can't let you do but as far as actual data collection...you get the same results with either.

There's also no reason you can't use both if you wish. I prefer SleepyHead...it's faster and faster is important to me.
I can open ResScan (it takes a while) and while ResScan takes its time opening I can open SH, do the download and see the results by the time ResScan is open form me to choose the patient and then let it do its thing and THEN I get to do the download which always takes a least a minute for me.
By then SleepyHead is long closed.

I do download to ResScan about once a week...just to keep the data there but SleepyHead is my main go to software for everyday and quick use or viewing.

SH is, as other have said, faster, and much easier to use. resscan is clunkly, and more focused at showing your DME whether you've been a good little boy and used your machine often enough for them to get reimbursed by your insurance.

you can easily zoom in and check things in SH with a couple of mouse clicks or clicks and drags, or the arrow keys, stuff that's quite cumbersome to do with resscan.

plus, the SH author actually participates here, and listens (usually) to people's requests for enhancements.

Duh... no contest, Sleepyhead. On the plus side, SH is also not 'stolen' software like an unlicensed copy of Rxxxxxx <wink>. SH is simply freeware, pure and simple (plus super fast, easy to use and to backup).

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Shush...we don't mention that part unless we have to
Back when I first started therapy ResScan (the full version as there was no "patient" version like there is/was with Encore) was openly sold to patients for $100. It was within a few months of my cpap therapy starting that ResScan decided they wouldn't sell to patients.

ETA:Nevermind, I found it and downloaded it, thanks!

Hi, does the software come with the machine or is it purchased separately, please?

Thanks.

No software comes with the machine at all.
But SleepyHead is free...see the links in my signature line and ResScan is free also. They used to sell it but they stopped that about 5 years ago. Technically it's supposed to be for DMEs and doctors and not patients because using ResScan gives us the ability to change the pressures...kinda stupid to worry about that point since it's really easier to change the pressures going to the clinical setup menu manually than it is to use the software to make changes. Using the software to make any changes to the settings takes a lot more time than just manually going to the machine.

SleepyHead has both Windows and Mac versions.
ResScan is strictly Windows only. If a person has a Mac the only way to use ResScan on the Mac is by putting some sort of Windows on the Mac...Bootcamp or Parallels or similar program and you need a Windows license.

I usually tell people to try both if they can and if they are curious. Nothing is harmed if a person uses both products.
I keep ResScan for my S9 but I don't necessarily download to it as often as I might SleepyHead. ResScan is just mainly for storage for me because I test out some of the SleepyHead testing versions before they go public and if it breaks and I lose my data I still have it on ResScan. Has never happened but I still keep ResScan hanging around...besides sometimes people have questions about doing something in ResScan and maybe I can help sort out a problem.
I really don't care which product someone uses. It's a personal choice.

For an idea what ResScan does you can watch the tutorial. It's for an older version but the basics are the same because the reports and how to get the data has never changed...newer versions were mainly bug fixes and making the newer machines be compatible with ResScan.
