Howdy. After years and years of complaints from my ex wife and my now girlfriend I went for a sleep study. They gave me a copy of the report and although I don't know all the jargon yet I was diagnosed with Apnea 56 events an hour on my side and 137 events an hour on my back
Received my CPAP that afternoon as listed on my sig line. I have been using it for 6 days. It is not that bad and I find I am out for a lot longer when using it. The Resp. Dr. set it for 8 in the meantime as I have a follow up sleep study with my machine in Nov.
It's hard getting used to keeping my mouth shut while falling asleep and I think I will see the pressure increased in the future as I feel starved for airflow until I get settled.
I seem to feel more rested but I know that only the follow up will rate the units success. After my Girlfriend gets back from overseas she will also rate my success....trust me.

Welcome! You shouldn't have to feel suffocated while waiting to fall asleep or waiting to see the doctor. There is a video tutorial for the Fisher & Paykel Icon Series at the link below in my signature box -- you can familiarize yourself with the menus and features of the machine and you might want to check to see if Ramp is on, because it's a comfort (not therapy) feature that you don't need. A lot of people turn Ramp off because they're not comfortable at the Ramp starting pressure.
So are you saying that your doctor had your machine set to 8 cm but no titration has been done yet? What is your AHI looking like so far -- can you see it on the machine's display screen?
p.s. Your severe apnea did not wipe out your sense of humor!

Actually I do use and like the ramp feature. I am very new to this and don't know what titration is. My study AH Index was 54.2 I just checked my machine after I posted and last night I was 6.2 so I guess its working
Off to follow your vid link, thanks.

Re: Greenhorn here
Sorry about the lingo -- titration is the process of determining the needed pressure. It can be done overnight as part of a sleep study, or it can be done at home with an auto-adjusting cpap machine -- the pressure settings are left wide open, the pressure goes where it needs to go while you sleep, and at the end of a week or so you return the machine and the doctor looks at the data and decides the pressure or pressures that the machine should be set at for you.348Win wrote:Actually I do use and like the ramp feature. In your first post it sounded like your pressure was set at 8 as a best guess and that you were going to have an overnight titration in November?

That's correct. I woke with cold this morning, running nose and sneezing all day, Im gonna give the machine a break tonight.kaiasgram wrote:In your first post it sounded like your pressure was set at 8 as a best guess and that you were going to have an overnight titration in November?
