Cover on Heated Hose

Post by Semily » Wed Sep 24, 2014 12:45 pm

Okay, another silly newbie question from me...I've started draping my hose over the headboard that has this nifty notch that's just right for keeping me from rolling over on my hose all night. But when I move in the night it frequently slides a bit, and the ribbed plastic on the wood headboard makes too much noise. So since I have some spare fleece, I thought I'd make a little cover for the hose. But I thought I would ask...has anyone ever put a cover on a heated hose? I know it doesn't actually get very warm, so I'm not worried about fire hazard or anything (lol), but could there be any other issues I'm not thinking of?

Make your own hose cover if you like. There is no danger. FYI, There are several commercial hose covers available. Padacheek makes one for the whole hose that has a zipper along its length. Pur-Sleep makes one that you simply slide over the hose and secure with velcro tabs. Both work fine. You can google both products. A big plus with the Pur-Sleep version is that its only about ten dollars.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I have the ResMed slimline hose cover on my Climateline hose, draped over my headboard and held in place by a hair elastic and a single hose clip. I have a photo, haven't set up an imgur account but I could if you're interested. Previous posters are right, there's no fire danger posed with a hose cover.

RicaLynn, you are so right, those fabric covered hair ties are so useful that I have a handful in just about every room in the house, especially in the kitchen and garage. Close up a bag of sandwich buns ... done. Tie some small pill bottles together for traveling... done. Hold a bunch of metric wrenches in a bundle... done. Cinch up a loose pants cuff in a bicycling emergency... done (I keep a couple wrapped around my handlebars at all times). A quick tourniquet for a slashed finger... yup, done that too.

I guess you could use them for your hair, but I've never tried that. I like the ones that don't have a clunky metal crimp forming them into a loop, just a neat heated fusion weld - must be a laser weld or something like that. That type are by far the best and probably more expensive. IMHO, I think they rank up there with duct tape and WD40!

I agree, Sir! Having a metric crap-ton of hair myself, and a daughter who inherited that particular trait from me, we have an abundance of the heat-welded variety scattered hither and yon about the house.

I used fleece to make a full hose cover before I got a heated hose and it worked fine. Attached it with velcro strips.
Now I use a Respironics hose cover on the hose and a fleece cover on the mask hose.
I would suggest a complete cover not just for the small area where it touches the bed. That will make it less sensitive to position changes during the night.

Agreed it is safe to use a hose cover on a heated hose from my reading and experience. I've even used the extra thick PadaCheek version (which I love by the way and is pure quality, although it is a bit heavy with the fleece & lining & zipper). I also like the Pur Sleep budget-friendly version I got from Bret. Very lightweight. And the lack of a zipper wasn't an issue once I read the directions that said to use the packaging to get the cover on the hose lol. Best wishes.

Yes, I would like to see the setup if you don't mind! I'll take all the input I can get.

Thanks for all the input!
