nose bridge problems

Post by bob007 » Wed Sep 24, 2014 4:52 pm

Hi guys,

I am developing a sore on the bridge of my nose and am wondering if there is something I can do to prevent it.

I started using a Respironics Comfort Gel Blue mask and really like it. I've used the nasal pillows for years and just have had too much trouble with leaking and comfort over the past six months.

I really like the head gear placement on the Comfort Gel. The nasal pillows, over the top of my head, leaves an irritating crease on my hair.

Is there some kind of tape, or other buffer, I could put on the spot on my nose (just about where my glasses rest) to prevent the irritation?

Are there other nasal mask that work like the comfort gel, but won't cause a blister to develop?

Any help or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

I cut the end off a band-aid (leaving the pad behind) and stuck it on the sore spot. First I put a tiny dab of triple antibiotic gel on the sore spot, just don't get it on the sticky edges. It will take a few days and up to a week to heal. With me once they are healed the sores never come back in that spot. I can't say that's the same for everybody but you won't know until you try it. Good luck and let us know how it works.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Mask liners can help (Pad-a-Cheek or RemZZZs). So can Lanolin ointment (in the breastfeeding section next to baby formula & stuff) and Ayr nasal gel. Both are safe to use on the skin that contacts the mask. I found a thin layer of Lanolin with gentle medical tape over it helped best. I also used a dab during the day to help heal the area. It worked better than anything like Neosporin. They also sell gel pads for the bridge of your nose, but people often report difficulties with leaks as they are quite thick. Do you have a local DME to work with who lets you try on masks and possibly even swap it out if it doesn't work out for you? If this continues, I'd at least try other masks. Its quite individual, but maybe someone else knows what is the most similar to that mask. Best wishes.

There is some gel pads you can purchase:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/boomer ... -pack.html
But in my experience with patients they do not help that much. A mask we have used lately that we prefer over the comfortgel is the Eson nasal mask. It seems to seal well, lightweight and patients have really liked it.
Good Luck!

Lansinoh is the lanolin preparation's actual name. Nipple cream in the vernacular, especially at Walgreen's where they usually sell it. I've never tried Ayr, tho others seem to like it... as I recall it dries into tacky dry skin overlay.

Here's a link and description for Lansinoh. Especially, great for nasal pillows.

I used the Comfortgel full face mask for over a year, and I had to put a small band aid on my nose
for the first couple of days with any new cushion/liner, just to prevent a blister.
In my case, the silicone would soften a little after that and I could then wear it on my bare nose.

My solution has been to use a variety of masks and nasal pillows accumulated over time so I can swap them out to avoid pressure on the bridge of my nose that my favorite masks causes the bridge to become sore or rubs the skin to harshly.

Find a nasal pillow or a full face mask that presses different parts of your nose/face than the mask you are using.

lanisoh good

or plasters- work night = end of plaster no middle bit, weekend = whole plaster cause the pad in the middle = extra cushion for 2 days accelerated healing , as I'm slightly more laid back over leak know I don't have to get up , constant battle between healing nose and not healed nose, but I generally win it -other thing makes a massive difference (those who use FFM's like mine) is the thingy at the top, never have it all the way down, it'll slice your nose off, never have it too tight either, difficult I know because the trade off is possible leaks, wonder if that buckwheat thingy I hear about is good for that?

cheers
Andy
