HELP WITH BUYING A CPAP MACHINE

Post by PhilE » Thu Sep 04, 2014 7:16 am

Hi All, after a visit to a sleep specialist I was advised to buy a fixed pressure CPAP machine. the doctor suggested Resmed S9 or S10. Any other suggestions or recommendations?

I live in Australia and the Resmed machines are around $400 cheaper locally compared to buying them over the internet in the USA. Has nayone had any experience, good or bad, buying over the internet? I do know that the warranty isn't valid in Australia but I reasoned that if I'm saving $400, I could always send it back to the USA if necessary. Any comments?

If I do buy a Resmed, any recommendation which to buy - the S9 Elite or S10 Elite? I'm a bit concerned that because the S10 is so new there may be bugs and problems that still need to be sorted out. Even though the S10 is marginally cheper than the S9, I don't mind spending the few extra dollars if the general feeling is rather to go for the S9.

Does anyone know if the Rescan software works with the S10 data?

Thanks

Phil

Yes. The newly releases 5.1 version of ResScan works with the new AirSense and Air Curve machines (commonly referred to as S10 though I don't know if Resmed is calling it that). We know what you mean.

The problem with buying from online cpap retailers like cpap.com is that ResMed won't let them ship ResMed products out of the US.
Now there are ways around that ban.. Ship to one of those "we will forward your stuff to you" places that has a US address.

Or you might go look at secondwindcpap.com. Since they are more of a secondary market source they don't seem to have the same restrictions. They have some good new open box zero hour machines that come with a 2 year warranty. It's a bit pricey to ship back to them but it's available. I doubt that they will have any of the new latest AirSense machines just yet though...too soon to filter down to them.

Thanks for your reply which was very helpful. I looked at the machines. There are some really great deals on the "open box" models. As far as shipping to Australia is concerned, I spoke to 1800cpap.com and they seem quite willing and able to ship to Australia. Do you know where I can download the latest version of Resscan? Thanks.

Remember, the Autosets can all be run in cpap (straight pressure) mode.
For a few bucks more, you could skip the expense of additional titration tests.

I thought ResMed was an Aussie company?

Yep. And they charge a lot more for the same machine in Australia than they do in the US. We've flogged this dead horse many times before.
