1year anniversary!

Post by darco » Sun Aug 24, 2014 11:37 am

Well after my first year using my cpap machine, what has it done for me?
My numbers have always been good. Still battle leak issues but overall its fine.
I still wake up fatigued and matter of fact I recently had my vit D level tested as some suggested this could lead to fatigue issues.
I started taking 8000iu for the last 3 mos and my test revealed I was currently at 39ng. Wondering what level was 3mos ago?
I am going to continue taking my Vit D , I am back into my cardio workouts and I just have to follow my insomnia regiment.
My only drawback is seeking medical since my deductible is $3k and each visit is quite expensive on top of my premium I pay each month.
Dam the medical industry has by the nutsack!

Have you ever considered trying an FF mask (your leak rate is fairly strong)?

And, maybe some experimentation with pressure settings.......

Actually Den , you helped me move from apap to straight pressure. What do yo think, should I bump it up?

Other than the one leak episode at roughly 1:00 to 1:40 where it nudge 80 L/min your leaks are far from horrible. I suspect your mouth dropped open for that short period of time. It is still likely below large leak territory though.
So they aren't horribly horrible by any means. The overall average leaks are well below large leak territory.
Large leak territory for your machine at your pressure is likely up between 80 and 90 L/min when total leak is reported.

Now if leaks wake you up they of course need work but a few mountains (Sleepyhead makes mountains out of mole hills) doesn't mean the entire night's therapy was in the toilet. Unless you just want to try a full face mask to see if it helps there's no urgent need to for potential mouth breathing unless you see a lot more time up around 80 to 90 L/min and your averages don't support that assumption.

Look at it this way........If you move your settings in one direction (or the other) and your numbers get worse, you're probably going in the wrong direction.
That was a variation of some sage advice from "Snoredog", one of our forum members who departed this world in late 2008, but he seemed to offer sound advice most of the time. A little cantankerous, but a good, helpful friend on the forum and many of us miss him.

Anyway, try it and see what happens. See what you can do about the leakage, too.
