Energy level - 2 years on
I've been using CPAP for two years. My compliance has been good: the data chip revealed that, for example, in the last fortnight, compliance was near 100% with an AHI of around 1.5. I have been sleeping an average of 7 to 8 hours. Yet often I still feel that 'brain-needs-to-switch-off' sort of tiredness at least once a day. This is usually helped by a quick half hour cat nap. I'm 43 and not overweight (i.e. Body Mass Index = normal). What can be the problem?

Do you take any meds of any kind for any reason? If so what?
Your 7 to 8 hours of usual sleep....are those hours of sleep solid with minimal arousals or wakeups.....or do you wake often during the night for any reason and if you do, do you know why?

I take 0.5mg of Clonazepam nightly – this is due to a mental breakdown two years ago caused by hypnic jerks. I started with 3mg and gradually reduced the dosage over the last two years. I usually get up once for toilet break per night.

I'm interested in your answers to Pugsy's questions about your sleep. Your detailed description could hold some clues. Your mention of "hypnic jerks" makes me wonder if you were diagnosed with PLMD (Periodic Limb Movement Disorder).

Do you wake often during the night and just not get up? Or do you sleep solidly except for the one bathroom break?
Have you researched the side effects to your Clonazepam?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clonazepam just one source
It has a really long half life so any side effects will definitely carry over into the daytime
Drowsiness is a known major side effect.
Your unwanted daytime symptoms could be made worse or caused by the Clonazepam even though it is a relatively small dose.
Common
Drowsiness[32]
Motor impairment
Less common
Confusion[8]
Irritability and aggression[33]
Psychomotor agitation[34]
Lack of motivation[35]
Loss of libido
Impaired motor function[vague]
Impaired coordination
Impaired balance
Dizziness
Cognitive impairments[vague][36]

Please tell us what your machine settings are (pressure, exhale relief and humidifier) and add them to your profile.Headintheclouds wrote:I've been using CPAP for two years. I see you have an APAP in your profile.
