Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy
I was checking out the CPAP.com site and noticed they have aromatherapy. I was just wondering if anyone has tried them. I am really interested in the Vapor Clear Sinus Blaster.

Re: Aromatherapy
It depends on your preference. The vapor clear sinus blaster seems to have an airway clearing effect,
but I prefer an herbal fragrance. (just me) The scents are a nice distraction from an occasional plastic smell from new equipment.
Please read and follow the directions. That way you can move the fragrance to a comfortable distance from the machine.

Re: Aromatherapy
Yes aromatherapy works! Well at least for me it does. The sinus blaster is 2 scents in the pack, Clear & Calm. When used together they help my sinuses tremendously. I've used some of the other scents too from the Pur Sleep line that cpap.com carries. I've not tried any of the new line, Snuggle Scents so I can't comment on those yet.
Now aromatherapy works a little differently for my hubby, he tried lots of scents & essential oils. Then he came back to my Clear, but uses quite a bit more than me. He also uses the original diffuser tray (I do too) but uses cotton squares that he soaks nightly. I don't require that much scent, I use the original diffuser tray with the original blue squares & add oil about twice a week.
I referred to the 'original tray' because they originally had a blue ceramic tray & blue cloth squares for the Pur Sleep brand. Now they use the paper-like pads & I don't care for these. You can use a cotton ball & put a small amount of oil on it then place it near your air intake on the back of your machine. This accomplishes the same thing, the air going into your machine picks up the scent & bamm - you have a pleasant fragrance to drift off to sleep with.
I've tried essential oils & other scents, but always come back to Pur Sleep. IMHO I definitely think its a product worth trying. I don't think the current diffuser wafers are worth fooling with, cotton balls, or cotton squares are just as effective & much cheaper.

Re: Aromatherapy
How do these work? I didn't know we could use aromatherapy with our machines except for the cotton ball by the filter idea.

Re: Aromatherapy
That's pretty well the description of how aromatherapy works with these. Put scent on something (cotton ball, wafer, bottle cap, etc), put it by the air intake, fire up the xPAP and voila!

Re: Aromatherapy
The aromatherapy oils are not put into the water chamber. I use the "clear" scent every night - it really helps and now after 5+ years it is part of my nightly ritual - a few drops, laninosh on the nares, mask up and lie down off to dreamland . I too have the original ceramic plate with the nice fabric scent pillow and wish they still offered the replacement pads. It does not matter if you use a cotton ball, a felt pad, or scrap of cloth near the air intake. Just make sure you are putting it on a small plate or something so the oil does not affect the finish of your nightstand.

Re: Aromatherapy
Thanks for your feedback. I did order the Clear Sinus Blaster and it's on its way. I also ordered a set of pads for my headgear. I am tired of having the marks on my face every morning so I hope they help.

Re: Aromatherapy
I was skeptical at first and just started using the "clear" scent. It works great for me, I'm not nearly as congested. And, it helps if there are not so pleasant smells in the air

Re: Aromatherapy
what happens if you add like vick's steam to your water? will it hurt the machine?

Re: Aromatherapy
If put in the water, there is no way to reduce the intensity without cleaning the tank.
--Not a thrilling thing to do in the middle of the night.
I just put it behind the blower by the intake, and move it away if it's too strong.
Some scents are just too much to use at all; then it's easy to bag it until morning.

Re: Aromatherapy
Yes, essential oils aren't to be used in a plastic container as they will eventually eat away at it (from what I've been told ~ at least the pure oils). I still haven't tried it on a cotton ball by the filter. Maybe I'll remember to try it tonight!

Re: Aromatherapy
I use essential oils regularly though I purchase therapeutic grade oils to use singly (eucalyptus globulus, lavender) or blended. I mix my own. Lots of good books on blending for scent or actual medical support. Lots on the internet but also lots of bad advice.
