Cats Messing With My BiPap Machine!
It's funny, but a nuisance! We have two kittens that are about 7 or 8 months old, so they get into everything. Last night, one of them sat on my BiPap machine three times - once he pressed the Ramp button so I suddenly had to go through the 20 minutes or ramping time for no reason, and twice he just turned it off. Darn cat! He's also very big on pulling the little filter out of the back with his teeth and using it as a toy. Fortunately he hasn't torn it, and fortunately I was able to find it!
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so were you able to find a good way to protect your unit? I'm thinking some kind of box on top of it might work.

HAHAHA! Gotta love those cats. Thankfully, NO, my cats never sat on the machine or pulled the filter out. BUT I do understand the filter. My M-Series machine has those little black foam filters. Every Time I washed them and left them to dry on my sink, one of my cats would find them and ... Yep, it's his new favorite toy. Most, I found relatively unharmed. (found one under the door of the hall coat closet) A few, on the other hand suffered beyond use. For the ones that were unharmed, the basic yuk factor required me to re-wash, hoping they can dry sufficiently before my cat finds them again.WhatMeSnore wrote:He's also very big on pulling the little filter out of the back with his teeth and using it as a toy. Thankfully they are cheap from CPAP.com. Knowing my cat's desire for these fun play things, I ended up ordering a dozen or so of them just a few months back. Then I switched machine brands... Ohh well, My Dad now has some spare filters for his machine.

This morning my air was abruptly stopped. I thought the machine was broke but no it was one of the cats sitting on my machine. They've only done this a few times so not a big issue with me. I do have some pretty nice hometheater stuff and to keep them away I use double sided tape. They hate stepping on it. I used it for the first few years and they stopped climbing on my speakers. I no longer need to use it because now they avoid those areas.
Enjoy the kittens

Re: Cats Messing With My BiPap Machine!
Back when I was a newbie, my cat did this twice. The second time I screamed at hubby to get the cat out of the bedroom NOW. The cat's been banned from the bedroom since then. Yes, we miss him snuggling with us at night. No, we don't miss him turning the PAPs off during the night. And we don't miss him howling in our faces for breakfast before we're ready to get up for the day.

I would look for a dollar store basket to turn over it.
Buy an extra for the cats to play with--in another room.

If I tried that with my wife , I'd be sleeping on the couch while the cats slept on my siderobysue wrote: The second time I screamed at hubby to get the cat out of the bedroom NOW. The cat's been banned from the bedroom since then.

Don't put a box on it - no air will be able to get into the machine (and then yourself)! Maybe a wide weave basket, but then they tend to be dust catchers. What about just closing the door until they're older?

or, if you do use a box, poke a couple air holesJulie wrote:Don't put a box on it - no air will be able to get into the machine (and then yourself)! Maybe a wide weave basket, but then they tend to be dust catchers. What about just closing the door until they're older?

Re: Cats Messing With My BiPap Machine!
Cats can be trained to sleep outside the bedroom. Mine all know bedtime is 'no kitty in the bedroom' time. Until recently we had 9 cats so it was impractical for them all to sleep with us. In June & July we lost 3 babies to the same disease, so although 6 sounds more manageable ( to them anyway), for now our kitties still get 'bedroom time' as a special treat.
Since yours are still youngsters, they should accept the change pretty well. Do expect a few nights of noise, they may not understand at first, but if you want them to sleep outside the bedroom, they can be trained.

Re: Cats Messing With My BiPap Machine!
You only need a small hole to let enough air in. If you run the hose through a hole about twice the diameter of the hose, it will provide plenty of air and give you a hole to run the hose through.Julie wrote:Don't put a box on it - no air will be able to get into the machine (and then yourself)!
