New here - 18 days in and doing OK/better but...

Post by listener » Fri Aug 08, 2014 11:24 pm

Hi All,

Thanks for a great forum! I've lurked for a few days and just joined. Great info here, and I have a ton to learn. At 18 days in I'm feeling a lot better for sure. Not as tired during the day, feel better when I wake up, etc. My spouse has made positive comments too about lack of snoring, looking better, and more mentally aware.

Question...the manual for my machine says "REMstar Auto A-Flex" and the number on the bottom is "560P". Have I chosen the correct machine in my signature?? Thanks!

My insurance wouldn't pay for a real sleep study so I was forced to play the home game. Results were 28 events per hour (AHI?). With the CPAP I'm averaging an AHI of 6.78. Better for sure, but I think it could be even better, no? Sleepyhead is giving the data I'll quote here. According to SH, average pressure is 7.38, and 90% pressure is 9.9. I'm seeing 20-50 hypopnea events each night, and probably 5-15 OA events each night. No leaks of any consequence, and I am quite comfortable with the Nuance mask.

Pressure is set at 5-15. Ramp at 10 minutes (I've changed that setting and it doesn't effect me either way), humidifier at 2, heat at 1 (I think). C-flex is currently at 3 (did the demo mode and didn't seem to be affected regardless the setting).

I notice that during the hypopnea events the pressure stays at 5 most of the time unless there are many of them in which case the pressure ramps up. Typically then the events subside and the pressure reduces. Some time later the events begin again and the cycle repeats. With this in mind, I have to think that increasing the lower pressure number (5) would help. Thoughts? Increase to 6 and try it? If you would rather see screen shots, I'll review how to do that and I'll post 'em up.

Thank you again for your help and for a very informative forum!

some feel that the home game is best, and the 'real' one is for hardcore masochists

if you keep having events at 5, and the machine has to ramp up, then yup, that would be the thing to do. you want it so that it starts up around the pressure that keeps your events from happening...

Thanks, palerider. Looking at my results it looks like 7 might be the magic number. I'll report back in the AM.

You have chosen the wrong machine in your equipment profile.
Right now I see the PR System One 60 Series Plus CPAPxxx and that is the model 260 machine.
The correct choice for a model 560 machine would be PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAPxxxx.

Fixed the equipment. Thanks Pugsy.

Last night I moved the minimum pressure to 6.5, and saw marginal improvement in the AHI at 5.98. I'll post some screenshots from SH, and ask for input in a new thread.

Thanks!
