New, just got sleep study results

Post by rdavidp » Wed Aug 06, 2014 2:49 pm

Hello everyone. I had a sleep study ordered by my primary and was done at the local hospital's sleep lab. I got hooked up to the wires and everything and went to sleep. About 3 in the morning the technician busted through the doors and said that they needed to get me on the CPAP NOW!! My O2 saturation dropped, but I did not ask how much or what the reading was. About four days after the study, I received a phone call from the local equipment supply place. My doctor already sent over the prescription before I got the results. I set up the appointment with the equipment supply, which is actually tomorrow. In the mean time, I set up an appointment with my doctor to go over the results. I got the results today.

Baseline period of 322 minutes, slept for 254.5 minutes. RDI is 108.0 per hour and AHI is 97.6 per hour. 281 total apneas, 0 central, 0 mixed. Waking O2 saturation was 99%. Average in baseline sleep was 93.2%. Lowest was 68%, which caused the emergency split night. CPAP set to 13, slept for 106 minutes with normalized apneic and hypopneic episodes.

From what I understand, my RDI and AHI are very bad. I should be getting the CPAP machine tomorrow, debating whether it is safe for me to go to sleep tonight or not without the CPAP.

You have severe Sleep Apnea. My AHI at my sleep study was 140. Both are terrible.
Until you get your machine stay off of you back. Sleep on your side or your belly.

Perhaps you can fall asleep in front of a fan on high speed - that might help.

Congratulations on your pending successful treatment and good health.

I wish I had read this before I got my first machine (PR System One Plus) 2 weeks ago, I wouldn't have been so upset when I went to look at the data and found that yes, I was using the machine nightly... duh, I knew that! Fortunately I got my new machine today (PR System One Auto CPAP), and now I can actually start seeing what is going on with my sleep! When I asked the DME about a machine with data they said I actually needed a prescription from the doctor for the ones that have data, fortunately she *didn't tell me* that since I'm asking for a new prescription I may as well go all out for the best, the auto pap. Yes, I had to contact my doctor, but I think it goes to show that not all DME employees are greedy, it's refreshing to get one that will tell you what is right.

Incredibly helpful links. Wish I had seen them before seeing my DME. Now I know
