Recommend pwer failure alarm/battery backup?

Post by Brian12465 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 11:39 am

Does anyone have a favorite uninterruptable power supply/power failure alarm to recommend?  I just got a ResMed VPAP III that draws a little over 2 amps, and am looking for a power failure alarm that has enough battery capacity to keep the thing running for a few minutes while I wake up & figure out what's going on.  Hoping to find something that's available at a real store today (Comp USA, Home Depot, etc) rather than buying online.

Thanks,
Brian

You have probably not had a power outage while on your PAP.

I have seen some concerned that a person could suffocate.
This is not the case.
You WILL wake up when it goes off.
No problem at all. But then you hope it comes back on shortly.
Some of the newer ones come with an adaptor that will run off a battery or the cigarette lighter in your car.
Bad place to spend the rest of the night though.
I have seen posting by creative people who put a battery on a cart and had it on continuous charge from a cheap charger.
Just roll it in and plug it up.
Cant help you with heat or air conditioning though.

I use a APC Back-UPS NS 1250, It's hooked to my Twin Computers, It would provide a few minutes, my power goes out 5 times a day, for 5 sec. and it takes over.

The computer will run 17 minutes, if they weren't on I'm sure the XPAP would run even longer. For long term outages a charged Deep Cycle battery is best. The longest I've seen our power out was 12 hours after a bad storm, that's in 10 years. Worst comes to worst, I'll pull a battery from my car. I also have a car starter that might be good for a couple of hours.

The APC is $130 at Sam's Club. and the car starter is $45 at Sam's Club. Jim
