Remstar Auto W/Cflex - Auto on/auto off?

Post by Mikesus » Thu Feb 17, 2005 7:33 pm

I was reading that the Remstar Auto is supposed to do this... How do you set it to work that way

Would be kinda nice...

I found the manual to be very confusing on this - looks to me as if the Auto-off feature is tied to the mask-off alarm, and at the best of times it takes about two minutes to turn off. Could be wrong, since I haven't tried it. I wouldn't want the hurricane whoosh to be sitting beside me for a couple of minutes before it turned off. I just reach over and turn it off.

On the other hand it seems that the Auto-on feature is always on. Put your mask on and take several breaths. I've found that mine turns on - even when I didn't want it.

The mask auto-on feature works great except it does not turn on the humidifier. The auto off is fine if you have no one else in the room to disturb. It blows air for two minutes and then beeps and turns off.

I guess I didn't let it wait long enough... Interesting on the auto on, maybe I didn't take a deep enough breath? Or maybe the with the humidifier it doesn't work?

I think I'd be a little afraid of an auto-off function. If I roll to the side in my sleep and get a serious mask leak, will it detect this and assume the mask is off and turn off?

Then, if I roll back onto my back, and the mask re-seats itself, I'm no longer getting the protection of my xPAP.

It won't surprise me the first time someone comes on here and posts "I seem to be turning off my machine in the night. I don't know why, I don't remember it, but in the morning I wake up and the machine is off."

Just a thought,

Liam, thoughtful evening from a thoughtless fellow.

Liam,

You can disable the auto-off feature if you are concerned about the machine turning itself off.

Does the alarm setting disable it or?

I'd have to look for sure and I may be talking out of turn. Maybe you can just turn off the alarm, but I think you can turn off the whole thing. I'll look tonight. If so it is the auto-off alarm switch I'm thinking of.

That is what I thought... There is an option to turn the alarm off but I thought that was it...

The Remstar Auto w/Cflex is probably the best APAP on the market. Cflex makes a huge difference.

It was a full face mask issue. Because of the valve on the mask (that keeps you from suffocating) you have to breathe VERY deeply to close the mask and start the machine... Mystery solved...

I only have to breath a little bit for my unit to turn on. Nothing fancy, just a couple of light breaths. Insure your machine is in the 'auto-on' mode and just put the mask on. The unit will take care of its self.

I also have never waited long enough for the unit to auto-off (I do have this feature turned on.) The rush of air is anoying and I turn it off manually.

However, as someone mentioned about mask leak turning the unit off accidently: the units are very sosphisticated and detect 'mask leak,' and know when you have taken the mask off. I sincerely believe there is no danger of accidental auto-shutoff from a mask leak. The units have undergone some serious testing to very rigerous standards. The Phillips REMstar units are excellent. (I have researched, no affiliation.)

Trust the machine. It works extremely well, if you let it. Trying to second-guess the machine will get you into trouble.

After only a few days i am completely sold on the concept. The machine works. I let it do its job and I do mine. We have an arrangement.
