APAP

Post by Thellra » Wed Jul 09, 2014 1:00 pm

Just wanted to make sure I was headed in the right direction, and I'm looking for some suggestions on improving comfort.

From playing with sleepy head, I increased my pressure from 5-20 (yuck) to 12-20 and my AHI is generally less then 1.

Is it normal that after ~4 months I'm still using tape to keep me from taking the mask off? should I just buy a case of the tape I like off of amazon?

You know that really warm, really moist air you get from the machine, right after it turns on after it's been preheating for awhile? Is there anyway to get that to last through the night? is their some silly way to daisy chain humidifiers together or something? It seems like the heated tubing even cools down after a few minutes, is that just ambient air? My wife keeps the room cold. I don't have a hose cover yet with a heated tube will that make much a difference?

I really like that really warm moist air, it makes it so I can breath through my nose.

Can you look up Climateline Hose - it might be just what you're looking for, and many people on the forum use it.

Alaska? That's cold (and I'm Canadian ).

If your room humidity is low (under 30%) you could try using a room humidifier. I use a 12 gallon model in the upstairs hallway to take the edge off the winter dryness. And the heated hose helps - if you have a 60-series without it it can be upgraded.

Isn't the Climateline Hose a ResMed product? I'm sure there are heated hoses for RemStar, but I don't think the Climateline is the right one.

I already have a heated hose Whatever stock one came with the humidifier, it plugs right in.

I'm wondering if I could do better with an aftermarket one, as the one I have runs off of a 90w power supply, and you can get 18-24 W just for the heated hose
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hybern ... ations-tab

I'll see if my wife will let me get a humifier, last time we had one we had a mold problem (rental with single pane windows)

but the humidity has been 80+% for the last week, and is supposed to be for the next week as well, I can't think we'd be drying out with anything as we don't use any heat in the summer, and my wife keeps the windows open at night (and then proceeds to use 4 blankets to keep warm)

I wonder if I could just put my machine in a box and throw some heat tape in it or something

Try turning the temp on the heated hose up some.

And you might try running the hose under the covers and next to your body.

I have used the Hybernite 2300 heated hose one winter ...this was back when I had he 50 series machine which doesn't offer heated. hose capability. Least little bit of cover on the hose with the cozy gave me more warm air than I was happy with. I haven't needed the extra heat from the hybernite 2300 tough. Work great out of the boxl

You have a 60 series machine with the heated hose that has the black end that plugs into the humidifier electric socket??? What temperature settings are you use? an what heater setting number are you using.
A light weight hose cozy added to the 60 series might give you the added warmth you wish for.

When I get some money I'll pick up a heated hose cover first, I'm not sure what heated tubing it is?

it get's it's power directly from the humidifier, there isn't an extra cord or anything.

The machine you have chosen in your profile is a 50 series machine which doesn't have a heated hose option available with it and the humidifier you have chosen doesn't work at all with the 50 series machine or the 60 series machine which does have the heated hose option. It would help if we knew EXACTLY which equipment you are using.

If your hose has a black end where it connects to the humidifier then you have a heated hose and the machine and humidifier you have chosen in your profile are incorrect. Your equipment would then be the 60 series equipment and not what you have chosen at the moment.

If you do have the heated hose....then you might simply just need to turn up the temperature of the air on the heated hose. Maybe turn up the humidifier setting also.

Sleapy head says System One RemStar Auto with A-Flex (560P)

The back of the machine says

REMstar Auto, DOM

REF 560P

REV00 3.XX

The humidifier says
System One HT Humid, DOM

REF DS6TLFG REV 00

The heated tubing which is set in the machine is set to 5 of 5, the humidifier is set to 3 of 3

Don't know if it makes a difference, but at 12.5 - 20 CMH20 with a 90% pressure for 7 days at 13

Your correct machine choice from the equipment drop down menu would be
machine....PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP
humidifier...PR System One 60 Series heated tube humidifier with heated tube

You have both the humidity delivered setting and the temperature setting maxed out with 3 for humidity and 5 for temperature.
I don't know if a hose cozy would help you sustain the warmth you want but worth a try.

1. Preheat the distilled water to about 110°F in the microwave
2. Put the machine in a drawer or someplace where it won't lose so much heat to the room but no flow restrictions.
3. Hose cover.
