APAP and Humidfier

Hello all,

I have been using Resmed S9 for six months now and have felt progressive improvements in my OSA symptoms (although not so dramatic). For the last 10 days, I stopped using the humidifier and since then I started feeling irritable, fatigued during the day, and feel sluggish most of the time. When I look at the numbers (AHI, leak, pressure), they all seem normal...Without the humidifier, I wake up in the morning with dry mouth (I am using FFM).

I am wondering if anyone had similar experience where not using the humidifier can compromise therapy despite having normal readings, or could it be something else not related to APAP?

Why did you stop using the humidifier? It would most likely eliminate the dry mouth and make you more comfortable while asleep.

This might sound weird, I had to stop using it because I am fasting during the day !!!

This is religious thing (I am a muslim), where I have to abstain fro eating or drinking water from sunrise to sunset....I thought some of the users in this forum might have had to stop using the humidifier for different reasons (travelling, humidifier fault, etc), and I was curious if they noticed anything in their therapy....

breathing water vapor isn't drinking.

you're breathing water vapor now, you just breath a little more of it using the humidifier.

Do you shower? (bathe?) Does it rain where you live?
You would most certainly be inhaling more moisture while doing so than when you're on the hose.
Sounds like a strange correlation to me......inhaling humidified air to "drinking water".

First time I went camping with a battery I tried to use my BiPAP with no humidifier in order to preserve the battery juice.

Big mistake. Not only was the sound of the machine very different, but the dry nose I woke up with was severe and lasted for several days.

Some of us have noses (and mouths) that need the extra humidification.

The failure to use the humidifier is certainly compromising your CPAP treatment.
Can you discuss this with your local religious leader? Is the correct term Imam?
You may get guidance that such usage of a medical device doesn't violate your fasting laws.
If not, then toughing it out will be necessary until the fasting period has passed.
