I get up on average 6-10 times a night.

I am in search of some help to keep me in bed. I get up on a good night 6 times sometimes i pee not always. on a bad nights its 11 times. i feel like i never get extended sleep ever. its very frustrating. does anyone have any success with sleep aids that basically help to keep them asleep? Regardless of my CPAP results if i continue to get up it really does not matte. even on good cpap nights with 11 awakenings i feel like shit still. very frustrating to live like this.

Is your AHI still higher than we would want to see?
I assume that you experienced this problem prior to starting cpap therapy? Is that true or is this something totally new that just started with cpap therapy?
Do you take any meds of any kind? I don't remember if I asked you this before so forgive me if I did...I have forgotten.

Back then therapy wasn't optimal...we don't know if the wake ups were related to OSA events or something totally unrelated to OSA.
Therapy needs to be optimal first...at least on paper to rule out the OSA events causing the wake ups.

If you are waking up that many times, especially if you get out of bed, you are going to feel lousy next day. Have you recently had a complete health check? Sleep apnea does not necessarily cause every thing that can possibly ail us. Get yourself to your regular doc, and start tracking down the real cause of your waking up.

Wow, that sounds terrible! I hope you can get some help with that.

Obviously, CPAP is not a cure all, there are lots of things that it does not treat.

I think that I would get an appointment with my sleep doc, ASAP.

Please fill in your profile (or otherwise provide) all of your machine settings.
Also, information from your nightly data.......like AHI, leaks, etc.

Did you experience this prior to starting therapy?

Is your cpap therapy working? It will not work if you are mouth breathing ? Please give us more info.

I too, wake up many times during the night from a condition not related to sleep apnea or PLMD. I am fortunate that my number is quite a bit smaller than yours. On an average night with 6 to 7 hours in bed, I will wake up 4 to 6 times.

So, can we see if we can get a handle on what is going on?
1. Do you have any symptoms that are connected to wakening? Headache, sweating, pain of any sort, gasping for breath?
2. Do you have any of these symptoms during the day?
3. Do you have any estimate of the time needed to get back to sleep. For me the sleep latency time after one of these episodes is less than three minutes and often less than two minutes.
Assuming you have the sleep hygiene under control.
4. Is you bedtime always or almost always the same time?
5. Do you do anything but go to sleep in the bed - read, watch TV, fret about the day's frustrations, etc.?
6. Are there any suspect foods that you eat? Caffeine, chocolate, spicy foods, acid foods, anything that give you heartburn?
7. Do you have GERDS or other upper digestive track problems. Silent GERDS can wake you up without the usual heartburn symptoms.

If you turn off your CPAP machine each time you waken and then immediately turn it back on, the machine will create a time=stamped record of your awakenings. You can then look at the breathing data and see if anything is happening just before you waken - perhaps find a pattern.

Once you have a detailed record going for several nights, then it's time to talk to your sleep doctor and to your primary doctor. You may need a workup to see if you have silent GERDS or other medical condition that is contributing. If necessary, another instrumented in lab sleep study might give some additional information that your cannot collect yourself. For example, you might have gross PLMD movements that are waking you up and that might be treatable. If PLMD is there, then the lab test for ferritin levels is called for.

Do you have a recording pulse-oximeter like the CMS50F? Making a recording and comparing the SpO2 levels during the night with your machine generated log (see above) could indicate that your oxygen saturation is dropping for some reason and your body is reacting to get you awake and breathing.

Based on your report of awakenings, it would be total speculation to suggest any particular medical condition as the cause. Collect the data and talk to your doctors. That degree of awakening is certainly adversely affecting your health.

Here is what my fragmented sleep log looks like for the most recent 13 days. I've been hunting for a solution for 10 years now. Each segment with a time printed is a sleep time. Sometimes they are too short for the system to be able to put in a number of minutes. It comes from Encore Pro but you could get similar data from SleepyHead in the Sessions display.
