Having echaustion problems due to disrupted sleep

Post by Droopy » Thu Jun 26, 2014 4:55 pm

I have sever sleep apnea and stop breathing 59 times per hour. I have a new Resmed S9 with heated humidifier & climate line tubing. I went to my sleep doctor Tuesday and brought my data card. He said it showed 90 days compliant with average recorded sleep time of 10 hours and approx. 1 ahi! So on paper I look good. But in reality I am suffering as though I have no machine. I get one or 2or 3 good days then more bad days. I have beenon cpap for 6 years & seem to be getting worse. What happens is whenbI wake up to use the restroom at 3:00 ambor 6:00 am I have trouble falling back asleep so an hour or 15 minutes go by before i get back to sleep. That broken or disrupted sleep screws me up so the next day I am so exhausted I can't do anything! Now that it has occurred for a few days I get depressed. I adked the Dr. If any of his patients have this problem and he said no! I was supposed to leave for a trip thst I drive 3 hours but there is no way I can drive. I had to force myself to take a shower last night. And I do not turn any lights on when I get up to use the restroom. I din't understand how I can be the only one going thru this? The Doctor gave me a name of an Insomnia Psychotherapist. Thank you.

fill out the equipment section of your profile.

if you don't have an escape model, then download sleepyhead software and use it to view your data and get a better idea what's actually happening to you.

Once you get your data, post it here. I'm sure someone will help you interpret it.

Some questions...
Do you wake often during the night in addition to the 3 AM or 6 AM wake ups? If so...any idea why?
Do you take any meds of any kind even OTC? If so...what, dose and when?
Do you have any other health conditions? Like thyroid problems...any other health problems?

Get the software...if your doc says the AHI is approx 1....you should have some sort of data.
Hopefully you don't have the Escape Auto because while it gives AHI it gives nothing else useful...like leak data.
SleepyHead will work with the S9 machine.
There's a thread on the main forum page talking about the new 0.9.6 versions (Mac and windows). Get it.
How to use it.. check out my signature line for links explaining how to use it.

How to post images of your detailed reports explained here with examples.

an Insomnia Psychotherapist
He is going to start by telling you,

- Moderate, regular exercise program.
- Good diet.
- Good sleep hygiene. (Google it.)

I would make sure to do all these for some weeks. If problem persists, you might consider the Therapist.

Yes, checking your drug list and posting your CPAP data should be done now.

If you experience insomnia, don't lie in bed with your machine on.
Go to another room and read quietly or listen to som restful music for a half-hour or so until you feel sleepy and then go back to bed.

Do look up sleep hygiene and see if you are doing anything not on the list.
For example:

1) No food after 6:00 PM, no spicy food until you are sure that is not a problem.
2) No caffeine after noon.
3) Nothing in bed but sleeping, at least for a while. No TV, no books, just when its time to go to bed, its sleep time.
4) No just lying there trying to sleep for more than 20-30 minutes - after that, get up and go to another room until you feel sleepy again.
5) Do keep a journal of bed time, any wake times and how long, morning wake up time.
6) Find a reliable time to go to bed and stick to it.
