New Machine

Post by thenapper » Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:37 pm

Hi guys. I've had a RemStar C-flex for 8 years now. Thinking of upgrading and adding a humidifier.

I am considering the S9 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with H5i™ Heated Humidifier for Her with air fit P10 mask. Anyone using this combo?

How do you like it? Any drawbacks?

Thanks.

I am considering the same thing, although I didn't discuss the heated humidifier with the doctor yet. What is the purpose of a heated (as opposed to non-heated) humidifier?

Thanks!

You may or may not need added moisture but most people do better with the some added moisture. Some people don't seem to need it. Maybe they live in an area where the air is fairly humid already. Most doctors routinely prescribe heated humidification. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I ran out of water in my tank a few times and once turned the setting down really low. My nasal mucosa gave me fits for about 3 days each time I made the mistake and let them get dried out.

Benefits
What are the benefits of using a heated air humidifier with different mask types?
Because you can adjust the level of heat, heated humidification offers greater flexibility and reduces more severe symptoms. Both nasal pillows and masks are a viable option when using humidification; however, "rainout" (moisture caused by having the humidifier turned up too high) when using nasal pillows may become more of an issue as the moisture is directed into the nostrils.

What are the overall benefits of CPAP humidification?
Up to 40% of PAP users experience nasal congestion and dryness of the nose and throat. These symptoms can be severe enough to prevent patients from continuing their treatment. ResMed heated humidifiers add moisture and warmth to the air delivered by a CPAP or bilevel system. This reduces symptoms of dryness and congestion, improving patient comfort and compliance. Research also shows that nasal resistance can promote mouth breathing, which in turn leads to additional dryness. Heated humidification can prevent the large increase in nasal resistance that results in mouth breathing and leaks.

That's my system and it works well for me. The mask was a bit tight at first, but it loosened up after a few days.

You can't go wrong with the S9 auto set with the humidifier. That's what I have and I love it! It's quiet and never ever had one bit of problem with it. It travels well and looks good too. Hope this helps,

I also use the S9 AUTOSET unit and I really like it.
I also use the H5i heated humidifier with the Climate Control circuit and it works out
really well for me.
I have tried the Airfit P10 and I do like it, but I tend to get mouth dryness, so I switched to
the Airfit F10 Full face mask, but I have both and I still use the P10 from time to time.
I don't think you will be disappointed with this Combo.
Good luck.
