Continuation of my CPAP/APAP Saga

Post by KCDC » Fri Jun 20, 2014 8:19 am

So guys,

First off, thank you so much for this website again. I've posted twice, once about my confusion:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=98259&p=911510#p911111

Then, about my fight with the intern doctor.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=98430&p=913209#p913209

You guys had warned me that the most difficult part was with the DME, but in fact, I had a different experience. Once the prescription went through, the company that actually received the prescription called me and set up an appointment with me with a respiratory therapist.

It was really a no choice for me. He immediately took out the latest and greatest ResMed S9 APAP with humidifier. Well, if it had been different, I would probably have argued about getting a better one. So, this is sorta strange to me. Could this just have been a fluke? Or just a good DME??

Nice guy, spent about 2 hours answering all my questions and off I went.

So I have to say, the MOST difficult part of my entire process was 1. WAITING. 2. Fighting with an intern. That's it.

Now, over the past couple of days, DME's after DME's have been calling me claiming a prescription was sent to them from my doctor. Don't know what that's all about but I just told them I already got it. They remind me of ambulance chaser lawyers!!!

Anyway, last night was my 3rd night. It sucks. I feel a whole different kind of tired right now. Feels like I stayed up all night kind of tired. Not narcoleptic tired like before. So strange. I feel like I'm sleeping, but I don't know why I'm so tired. Anyone of you guys in the beginning felt tired? Oh, also finding myself waking up way earlier than my usual 14 hour night.

Thanks

Kenny

PS: oh, now I can post my equipment like everyone else on their signature!!!! Thanks again!!!!

There are some good DMEs out there. Some do routinely dispense those full data APAPs right out of the starting gate because can actually benefit the patient when there is a problem down the road. They realize a happy patient who uses his machine (as opposed to putting it in the closet) makes for lifelong customer.
Sounds like you got one...congrats on that hurdle being a non issue.

Now for not sleeping well or feeling a different kind of worse.
Let's get you started with the software so you can evaluate you therapy and see if anything stands out there which might could be a factor.
SleepyHead will work with your new S9 Autoset. If you want ResScan and don't have it...send me a PM.
Links to SleepyHead information are in my signature line but I suggest that you get this version as the 0.9.5 testing version has a little bug with the pressure graph that was fixed in the 0.9.6 testing version
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/978 ... OpenGL.zip SleepyHead 0.9.6 testing
Plus it has a feature to auto detect the SD card making import process less work.
There is no installer yet for this version so you have to unzip the files and go into the main SH folder to find the SleepyHead application.exe file to launch the program. While there just create a shortcut to your start menu or taskbar if using Windows for easier opening the next time.

Oh....make sure that Sleep Quality setting in the clinical menu setup area is set to "On"...the default from the factory is for "usage" and with it set to usage you only get summary hours of use reported and SleepyHead needs all the data files available to do its calculations.
Here's a pdf of the Provider/clinical manual for the S9 machine that explains how to get to the clinical setup menu if you don't know how. It also explains some other features.

Finally....your sleep now...how many hours are you getting using the mask and machine...and are you waking often for any reason? If so, do you know the reason?

Hi pugsy. Thank you for your reply and support. I would like whatever ResMed uses. So when I go back, i can compare apples to apples. Unless you think that sleepyhead's software is way superior? And interestingly enough, it seems now that you can go to resmeds community site called http://www.wakeupnow.com to get some sort of software. I need to look into it further.

About my sleep, im only getting aporoximately 6 hrs. And when i wake, the msdk and evetything is still on and functioning. I dont know what the reason is. Then i would take the mask off and drift off for another hour before i begin my day. Strange huh?

You can use both Sleepyhead and ResScan if you wish..I do. Using one doesn't mean you can't use the other. SleepyHead is MUCH faster though.
Check your private message box please for some additional information on how to obtain and use ResScan.
ResScan is ResMed's official software and will be what DME and your doctor would be using or familiar with. Windows only though...No Mac version.
SleepyHead has a Mac version.

That wake up to sleep thing...very limited data..about what you can see on the machine's LCD screen. Pretty lame and not worth the effort IMHO.

Try not to sleep without the mask on. Bad habit to get into that is real easy to make and hard to break. Either get up for that last hour or put the mask back on. You will feel better. Think about it ..what does the body remember the most...the most recent 1 hour crappy sleep with mask is what it remembers most.
