Hosebuddy suitable for stomach sleepers?

Post by cinephile » Tue Jun 17, 2014 12:49 pm

Hello all! I've been on the 'pap for about three months now and lately my issue is the danged hose wraps around me in my sleep. This causes me to either a) wake up multiple times to untether myself or b) sleep in an awkward position that causes all kinds of neck/back pain (no fun!).

So I found the hosebuddy https://www.cpap.com/productpage/HoseBu ... ystem.html and it seems like it will address the issue. Only (potential) problem: I'm primarily a stomach sleeper. Does anyone have this product and can confirm that it works for stomach sleepers?

NOTE: I am using a Swift FX nasal pillow mask.

Thanks!

I use something similar: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/arden- ... ystem.html The purpose of these systems is to keep you from getting wrapped up in your hose.

I used to be a pillow diver, and slept on my stomach. Sleep studies like it when you sleep on your back. I also use the Swift FX and the Wisp. I find when I attempt to go to my stomach, I cause more leaks, and will push off the masks I use.

I've adapted, and now sleep on my right side.

I'm sure others will chime in and voice their opinions, likes, dislikes.

Pat

You might be able to rig up something at home now to give you an idea how something like the hose buddy hose management system would work in your situation before springing for the big bucks and buying the product.

Rested gal composed a collection of various ideas and comments. It doesn't have to be store bought to work or at least give you an idea if hose management would work for you.

Some people really like to use a hose management system of some sort. Some don't care to. I don't use one but in over 5 years I have only tried to strangle myself a couple of times with the hose. I would sure consider it if I was more prone to getting all wrapped up in the hose.

I can't speak for cinephile, but I move all over, twist and turn, kick the wife and cat out of the bed. The hose management system works for me.

I'm a stomach sleepter and have the machine on a shelf almost in line with my head (more or less) and 1-2" lower. The standard 6' hose would be a mess if I tried to use it, never mind knocking everything else on the shelf to the floor... so I found a 2' hose, added an 8" piece from the machine to the hose (it's got regular rubber 'ends') that I found somewhere as well, and maybe because I don't move a lot when asleep, or wake up only once or twice to turn 'on purpose', nothing gets tangled or slept on, just curled a bit between me and the machine, tho' I have awoken a few times to find I've pulled the machine over by a few inches if I've unconsciously moved too far away... but that's all.

I've got a 10' hose and and 18" extender. I can move all over a king bed and not have hose issues or move my machine.

The problem with those solutions is that they have little "give"; that is, if you move up and down the bed (as I do, as well as most stomach sleepers), the hose would either become loose and create the potential to tangle, or it would pull on the hose/holder and could take it down. I rig a system with an elastic band running where the hanger of the above would be from left to right (a bit like a curtain rod) to take up side-to-side motion, and it would stretch and contract to take up up-and-down motion.
Just a suggestion.
