White noise is a superb non-medicinal treatment. Several people have used a bedtime sleeper or "sleeping med", such as triazolam for a few days to a few weeks. It decreases anxiety and is very effective for augmenting sleep. Seems it does not increase AHI. Ambien has too many side effects compared to triazolam, and triazolam generic is much cheaper than Ambien.

Let us know what works for you.

I did not have any problems with noise at night till I had to do a home sleep study and had to use the doctor supplied equipment. It was many times loader than my normal setup. The let me keep the mask they provided and the cheap hose. turns out the noise was not the loaner machine as much as it was the ill fitting mask and the especially the hose they provided. the hose was not soft rubber it was some clear plastic molded thing. Probably cost only a quarter to make and it resonated like crazy. the softer hoses with the wires inside are much quieter

So far so good! Kept it on 6 hours last night, which is a lot longer than I'd been able to before! I'm sure the Ambien helped, but the white noise app helped so much more than I expected! Now I'll decrease the Ambien over the next few nights and see how I do. Thank you so much everyone!

I also have been really happy with the White Noise app from tmsoft - that is what I use on the road. I have a white noise machine that I use at home (though I may swap that out - I've learned where it loops back under all but one of the settings, which reduces its effectiveness). Most of the White Noise app's sounds are nice long loops so that you don't notice where they loop back on themselves.
