Do hiccups give abnormal readings?

Post by Tatooed Lady » Sun Jun 15, 2014 2:53 pm

Last night I had the hiccups shortly after starting therapy. I had a giggle, and kept the mask on, because I'm curious to see how they will affect my readings. Is this something that can be flagged as "abnormal" or however the doctors read results, or is it common enough that they recognize the pattern (assuming it shows on graphs) and ignore it?

ok, after looking at my results, they don't look substantially different (to me) than a "normal" night. Too bad, I was looking forward to major spikes. LOL

The duration of a hiccup is quite short; the programming may have filtered them out of the report.
I would understand that choice since they are usually not significant.
I noticed some time ago that while holding my breath may stop hiccups, breathing again restarts them,
specifically at the pause between an inhale and an exhale.
When I would consciously breathe in and out continuously without a pause, no more hiccups!

I have never heard of anyone having hiccups in their sleep. Any data recorded while not asleep, has nothing go do with sleep apnea, and is to be ignored as corrupted. Jim
