Hey all,
I have an old Respironics Remstar Pro with Cflex+ and a Resmed S9. I got the Resmed because I couldn't stand the pressure pulses on the Remstar machine. I'm thinking of getting a new machine, and I'm considering Respironics again, but wanted to know if they still had the pressure pulses to check if an apnea is OSA or central/clear airway? Is that still the method of detection on the new machines? I guess on any of the system one machines (Auto, SE, etc.).
Thanks!

Yes, the auto still has it.

Oh what could a little pressure pulse do?
What, you think that it might keep you up all night?

Re: New Respironics Machines - Pressure Pulse still there?
When I first started using my Phillips Respironics Auto SV Advanced, I was often woken by the pressure pulses.
I can have as many as 400 pressure pulses a night. I found them startling, to say the least and they were torture as they seemed to be never ending and very very strong puffs, indeed!
I did some fiddling and suddenly I stopped feeling them, pretty much over night. I think it was the turning up the pressure support to 4.5 that I stopped feeling the pressure pulses altogether.
It is as though the pressure pulses have totally disappeared, as I am never aware of them now and they never wake me up. Sleepyhead shows that the pressure pulses are all still happening though and as prolific as ever, I just no longer feel them, even when falling asleep.
Because it happened so suddenly,I do not believe I just got used to them,so I think my no longer feeling them came about, rightly or wrongly, because of a change that I made to the settings.
I am sure that posters who are much more experienced than me with their ASV will confirm if changes to the PS is what did it, or something else.
But it is a great machine and I never feel that I am fighting with it, it follows my breathing beautifully.

Re: New Respironics Machines - Pressure Pulse still there?
Thanks sleepinglass. Hmm... that is pretty strange. If I get a chance to try out the ASV I will mess around with it to see if I can replicate that. I had a similar issue with the pressure pulses on the Respironics remstar cpap. If you don't mind my asking, did you get an ASV for complex sleep apnea/central apneas? Or did you just get one yourself?
